BetUS NCAA College Football Betting Odds: LOUISVILLE -7.5, Total 45

Alright, let’s talk about the controversy, because it really does impact the college football betting aspect of this game. Mike Williams, who is far and away Syracuse’s top offensive weapon, left the program a couple of weeks ago. Williams had caught 49 passes on the year, and was averaging over 106 yards a catch, which ranks him eighth nationally among receivers. He had been suspended for the game against Akron and had just four catches for 34 yards against Cincinnati.

His departure had been something of a mystery, although some things have started to unravel. Williams, who is a Biletnikoff Award finalist, was not a model citizen. He did not play at all last season because he allegedly got caught cheating on a test. On the Sunday before the game against Pittsburgh, he was involved in a car accident along with three other teammates. He quit the team the next day, and the teammates were suspended. They had been driving at 5:30 AM on a highway about 30 miles from campus. The rumor is that they went to Turning Stone Casino, which is off-limits.

Maybe Williams hit a big slot jackpot and doesn’t have to play anymore, even in the NFL.

Williams isn’t the only loss Syracuse is facing. Arthur Jones, the defensive tackle who is certainly considered an NFL prospect, has torn his lateral meniscus and will miss the rest of the college football betting season.

Greg Paulus, the quarterback who switched schools and sports after leaving Duke’s basektball team, is having a hard time of it, having completed just 41 passes in the last four games, and Ryan Nassib, who is hitting less than 50%, has also seen time at quarterback.

At Louisville, coach Steve Kragthorpe, formerly the head man at Tulsa, may not be around next year, because he has not engineered a revival in the program. Vic Anderson, his leading rusher, has sat out the last two games with a knee injury. The Cards have been turning lately to freshman running back Darius Ashley, who has responded with 67, 77 and 164 yards in the last three weeks. With Anderson scheduled to come back this week, Louisville could find some strength on the ground. Adam Froman, a 64% passer, could also be returning for Louisville, and that strenghtens their case in the college football betting action.

The Cardinal defense held up its end pretty well against West Virginia last week, allowing just 273 yards. Doug Marrone preaches defense at Syracuse, but after yielding 900 yards the last two games, and without the stellar Jones, the wheels may be coming off.

We’ll lay the points with Louisville, the 7.5-point favorite in the BetUS college football betting odds.
