If Cincinnati is to remain undefeated on their quest towards another Big East championship, they’ll have to defeat the only team which beat them in conference play last year, the UConn Huskies.

UConn is coming off an emotional couple of weeks, following the shocking death of former cornerback Jasper Howard. Unfortunately, on the field, the Huskies have had little luck, as they’ve lost their last two games, and in all four of their losses this season, they’ve held leads in the fourth quarter.

Adding to the difficulty of this game, is that they are once again making a change at quarterback. Zach Frazer started the season under center, then got injured and lost his job to Cody Endres. But with Endres out for the season with an injury of his own, Frazer is back under center. He will be helped by one of the Big East’s best rushing attacks, which averages 163 yards per game. Senior Andre Dixon and sophomore Jordan Todman split carries the two have combined for 1500 yards and 15 touchdowns on the season.

Defensively, the Huskies are better than most realize, as they allow just 20.6 points and 321 yards per game. One thing that needs to get figured out before Saturday is kickoff coverage, as the last two weeks they’ve allowed the opening kickoff of the game to be returned for a touchdown.

Just like their counterparts, Cincinnati has some issues at quarterback, as it seems as though Zach Collaros will start under center for the injured Tony Pike. Playing in parts or all of the last three games, Collaros has done well, throwing for 250 yards or more in each of the last two games. However, don’t let blind statistics fool you, this offense just isn’t as good with Collaros. Like against Syracuse last week, look for the Bearcats to try to control the running game with Isaiah Pead and Jacob Ramsey.

While their offense gets all the credit, Cincinnati’s defense has been better than most realize, especially considering they lost 10 starters from last year’s team. They currently rank ninth in college football, allowing just 12 points per game.

This game is a really interesting one, and real tough to pick for several reasons. On one hand, you’ve got two backup quarterbacks playing. Both will be limited in what they’re allowed to do, with each team focusing on the running game. Frazer however is no doubt the more erratic of the two, as he has thrown a mind-boggling seven interceptions in just 89 passing attempts.

What I believe will be the ultimate factor in this one though has nothing to do with what’s on the field. But because this is a nationally televised, primetime game, it might be Cincinnati’s only chance to show everyone in college football just how good they are. I expect them to pull out every trick in the book and win comfortably. And with UConn’s offense struggling, the Bearcats should put up enough points to cover this weekend’s college football betting odds.
