Badgers vs. Gamecocks Gambling Prediction & 2014 Capital One Bowl Preview

Wisconsin vs South Carolina College Football Spread/Handicapping

These are two very good teams and this should be a nice bowl game. Wisconsin is once again one of the top rushing teams in the nation so if the Gamecocks are going to win they are going to have to play a strong defensive game, which they usually do.

Their top defensive player Jadeveon Clowney did not have the best best of seasons but many are still talking about a play he made in their bowl game last year.

Another one like that would really improve his draft stock, it needs it.

Wisconsin

It was a pretty good start to the Gary Anderson era in Madison, though it doesn’t look like much has changed…at least not yet.

I say that because the Badgers were their usual ground heavy selves, finishing 8th in the nation rushing the ball.

They are a two headed monster in the backfield with both RBs James White and Melvin Gordon rushing for more than 1300 yards.

That and a defense that is ranked 6th in yards allowed and 5th in points have been a strong formula for success including at the window where they are 9-2-1 ATS this season, good for some major profits.

This one is going to be one of those classic B10 vs. SEC grudge matches but is the rare case where the Big Ten is getting some respect as the favourite. I like the Badgers a lot but I am not sure that is how I would have called it, at least this far out.

South Carolina

Even though they finished 10-2 it seemed like the Gamecocks were never really in the running for a truly great season.

There were the losses of course, to Georgia and Tennessee, but the lack of elite play by Clowney and the seemingly constant injuries to QB Connor Shaw made this team look like they were getting lucky as much as being good.

This is a very good team, just not an elite one. On offense they are very balanced with passing and rushing attacks ranked in the top 50 and even though their star was a little faded this season they still had a defense 14th in the nation in points allowed – about 20 per game.

They are also on a roll having won their last 5 games heading into the Bowls including beating their in-state rival Clemson, which somehow got a BCS invite anyway, in the final week of the season.

4 of those 5 wins were covers too so they have been helping you out after a first half that would have put backers in the poor house.

Spread Pick: Wisconsin -2.5
O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Wisconsin 30 – South Carolina 24
