Arizona arrives in Los Angeles fresh off its first loss of the year after winning its first three games of the season.

The Wildcats travel to the Coliseum to play for the third time on the road in five games this year, and will look for a repeat performance from junior running back Ka’Deem Carey, who  is looking for his eighth consecutive 100-yard outing. Carey has scored at least one touchdown in 17 of his last 18 games.

Arizona will also expect a little improvement from  quarterback B.J. Denker.  The senior play caller has completed only  50 percent of his passes and tossed his first two interceptions of the season in the Cats’ loss  to Washington  last time out.

Nevertheless, Denker has redeemed himself of sorts by rushing for 280 yards and a team-high six touchdowns.

Meanwhile the defense has been solid — ninth-best nationally — allowing 14 points and 335 yards per game with seven interceptions, six sacks and two fumble recoveries.

That’s going to wreck havoc on Trojans sophomore QB Cody Kessler, who although completing 64 percent of his passes with six touchdowns, has also tossed four interceptions. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

If the Trojans want a shot at redemption they will need another clutch performance from sophomore running back  Tre Madden, who has done a great job in place of senior running back Silas Redd who has been sidelined with a knee injury. Madden has rushed for 583 yards and has topped 100 yards in four of five games.

Defensively, the Boys from Troy have allowed 21 points and 307 yards per game with seven interceptions, a fumble recovery and a whopping 17 sacks. However, they gave up 62 points  against Arizona State, which matched for worst in school history.

Matt’s Prediction

USC leads the series 28-8, but Arizona posted a 39-36 home win in last season’s meeting.

The Trojans have the talent, they’ve just lacked the guidance.

Southern California is hoping to  overcome a 0-2 start in conference play, while  Arizona is looming to remain a factor in the Pac-12 South race.

I expect the Trojans to play Arizona to a wild finish, coming up with a much-needed win.

USC 24, Arizona 21
