No. 11 Kansas State Wildcats vs. Kansas Jayhawks Preview

They will likely not overlook Kansas, as this is the big “Sunflower Showdown”, but the Jayhawks rank dead last in the nation on defense and KSU head coach Bill Snyder is 14-1 all time facing the Kansas.

In their last games Kansas State beat 41-34 and Kansas lost to Oklahoma 47-17.

If the Wildcats can win this game they will be off to their first 7-0 start since 1999.

Kansas has lost 4 straight, and lost badly, and in their last 3 games they were crushed by teams that had a great passing offense and in the other loss they were killed by Georgia Tech, who has a great rushing offense. Either way Kansas has a terrible defense ranking 116th in rushing defense and 119th in passing defense.

Kansas State only ranks 114th in the nation in passing offense, as they are all about the run. Duel threat QB Collin Klein and RB John Hubert have combined for over 1,100 rushing yard this season with Klein rushing for 10 TD. Kansas gave up 247 rushing yards to Oklahoma last week so how much will they give up this week? [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Kansas has one chance in this game and since their D is so weak their offensive will probably have to bail them out. Where the Jayhawks are decent is running the ball, as RB James Sims leads a Jayhawks’ rushing offense that ranks 25th in the nation. However, after Sims rushed for over 100 yards in the first 2 games of the season he has not done that since.

Kansas State ranks 16th defending the run, but they only rank 93rd defending the pass. Kansas QB Jordan Webb (1,238 yards 11 TD 5 INT) may have to play stellar for the Jayhawks to pull off the home upset. WR D.J. Beshears (20 rec 293 yards 2 TD) and TE Tim Biere (21 rec 246 yards 1 TD) will have to make some big plays in this game and if the KSU defense can shut these guys down Kansas will lose their 5th straight game.

Betting Trends

This season Kansas is 3-3 ATS and has an O/U record of 5-1 and Kansas State is 5-1 ATS and has an O/U record of 3-3.

Kansas State is 2-11 ATS in their last 13 games as a road favorite, 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games, and has an Over record of 7-1 in their last 8 games as a road favorite.

Kansas is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games as an underdog, 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games against teams with a winning record, and has an Over record of 8-2 in their last 10 games as a home underdog.

Jason’s Pick: Seriously? KSU and their great rushing offense facing the worst defense in the nation? Take the Wildcats to win and cover and take the Under, as I think the KSU defense will keep the Jayhawks from scoring many points.
