Hawaii (5-2, 5-1 ATS) is flying high after a 27-21 upset over then-No. 19 Nevada. The offense wasn’t as sharp as usual, producing just 346 total yards (compared to a 475 yard average on the season). Bryant Moniz was sharp under center, completing 26 of 36 passes for 287 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions—he just didn’t have any of Hawaii’s customary big plays, partly because receivers didn’t have a great day running after the catch. The Warriors got 68 yards on 13 carries from running back Alex Green but, as usual, this team doesn’t strive for balance—it lives and dies by Moniz’s arm.

The defense, on the other hand, is playing lights out run now. Hawaii meltdown down against Colorado a few weeks ago but, in three games since, the “D” has turned up the heat. Nevada was limited to a paltry 293 yards on the day, while turning the ball over four times. Hawaii allowed 143 yards on the ground, but the Wolf Pack was only granted inches at a time; Nevada averaged just 3.1 yards per carry.

The Aggies (2-4, 2-3 ATS) are coming off a bye week, which only gave them more time to think about a 24-6 drubbing at Louisiana State in their last outing. The offense completely melted down, putting up just 195 total yards. Utah State simply couldn’t get anything going in the passing game, as Diondre Borel was 14-23 for 73 yards and three sacks. The Aggies rushed for 122 yards—though only averaged 3.5 yards per pop—and are committed to getting even more production out of the ground game this week. If there’s a silver lining from the Louisiana State debacle, it’s that the offense didn’t commit any turnovers.

The “D” didn’t fare much better. Utah State was ground up and spit out on the ground; Louisiana State rushed for 278 yards and two touchdowns. Thankfully, the Warriors won’t be especially concerned about running the football anyway. The Aggies did a respectable job against the pass, limiting the Bulldogs to 149 yards on 32 attempts, but their passing game isn’t nearly as dynamic as Hawaii’s. Utah State also has a few banged up members in the secondary, which could be very, very bad with Moniz coming to town.

Hawaii has met just about every test this season. The offense is firing on all cylinders—as expected—and the “D” is showing tremendous signs of improvement. The Colorado meltdown seems to have woken the Warriors up, who have covered three straight games. Take Hawaii in a rout.
