Arizona St. Sun Devils vs. Colorado Buffaloes CFB Preview & Free Pick

Sun Devils vs Buffaloes NCAA Football Spread/Handicapping

The Arizona State Sun Devils are off to a nice 4-1 start under new coach Todd Graham. Graham didn’t make any friends in Pittsburgh, but he did prove he could win at Tulsa. Colorado stunned Washington State on the road, but they have also had four terrible losses.

The Buffaloes come into this one at 1-4.

Let’s take a look at this Thursday night PAC 12 matchup.

Arizona State

Arizona State has transitioned nicely to Todd Graham’s uptempo offense. The Sun Devils are averaging 38.4 points per game so far this year. Taylor Kelly has been a nice surprise at the quarterback spot. He has thrown nine touchdowns and just two interceptions.

He is also completing 67.2 percent of his passes.

Arizona State has four runners with at least 147 rushing yards so far this season. Chris Coyle has become the top target on the outside for the Sun Devils.

The biggest surprise so far this year has been the amazing play of the Sun Devils defense. Arizona State ranks 11th in the nation in total defense. They are giving up only 13.6 points per game.

The secondary is the biggest area of strength.

Arizona State’s secondary is allowing only 137 yards per game through the air. The strong secondary should help this team quite a bit in a league where there are a lot of teams who will throw the football early and often.

Colorado

If you need to know how bad the season has been for Colorado just take a look at a couple of their games. They were beaten at home by Sacramento State. You might expect the team to bounce back in their next contest, but that was definitely not the case.

Colorado went to Fresno State and was beaten 69-14. After upsetting Washington State three weeks ago, Colorado was beaten 42-14 at home by UCLA in their last game. Jordan Webb has been decent at the quarterback spot for Colorado.

Webb has seven touchdowns and four interceptions, but he has only thrown for 961 yards in five games.

Colorado averages only 117 rushing yards per contest. The Buffaloes rank 101st in the nation in total offense.

As bad as the offense is for the Buffaloes, the defense is actually worse.

This unit is allowing opponents to rack up 474 yards per game. The secondary has been picked on almost every week. Opponents are averaging 309 passing yards per contest. The Buffaloes are allowing 39.4 points per game.

Needless to say, it is tough to win games when you are giving up almost 40 points per contest. This defense is short on talent this year, and it’s hard to imagine them shutting down many offenses.

This is a huge number to lay on the road, but I wouldn’t want to play Colorado either. I think the better way to go here is with the over.

Arizona State should put up a very big number, and Colorado will likely put up a couple late scores as well.
