The scoreboard operator will get a great workout on Saturday as the Fresno State Bulldogs host the Hawaii Warriors. Both teams can rack up points in a hurry and neither has played great on “D” this year.

Despite a rash of injuries on offense, Fresno State (3-1, 2-1 ATS) is coming off a 38-17 win over Cal Poly. The Bulldogs were missing three top receivers and a key running back, yet the offense churned out a pile of points anyway. Ryan Colburn is doing a great job under center, particularly when it comes to ball distribution—nine different Bulldogs have already caught touchdown passes this season.

Another player to keep an eye on is Isaiah Burse. The freshman wide receiver was given some extra playing time because of the injury problems, and he made the most of it; Burse ripped of a 58-yard catch-and-run touchdown, blocked a punt and added another 24 yards on the ground.

On the other side of the football, Fresno State did a pretty sound job against Cal Poly. The Bulldogs really only allowed one decent drive all day, as Cal Poly’s second touchdown came after the Fresno State offense turned the ball over on its own one-yard line. You can’t fault the “D” for that. Fresno State held the Mustangs to just 221 total yards, but over 200 of those came on the ground.

Hawaii (3-2, 3-1 ATS) topped Louisiana Tech 41-21 last week. The offense is firing on all cylinders, rolling up over 100 points in its last two outings. Bryant Moniz is leading a ridiculous passing attack; he torched Tech for 532 yards and four touchdowns. The unit is somewhat one-dimensional, however. Hawaii only posted 115 yards on the ground, and 49 of those came from Moniz. Still, with the passing game on fire, it hasn’t really mattered.

The “D” is allowing 27 points per outing. Louisiana Tech quarterback Ross Jenkins completed over 70 percent of his passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns, though the Warriors did pick him off once. It was the only takeaway Hawaii came up with, sometime the Warriors should be working on for its match up with Fresno State. Hawaii’s run defense has been pretty bad, but Moniz got the team off to such a hot start, Tech was forced to throw and play catch up.

Hawaii is dialed in right now. The Warriors are going to whip the ball all over the field and force Fresno State to play keep-up, which is tough considering the injuries the Bulldogs have endured. The Warriors have enough gas in the tank to keep this one tight.
