Handicapping AP Top 25: NCAA Football Top 10 – Betting Preview

Week 5 AP Top 25

Last weekend’s schedule was full of one-sided matchups, which meant lopsided across the board. Not surprisingly, there was little change in this week’s AP Top 25 Poll, with the top 14 spots remaining unchanged.

Let’s take a look at the top 10 teams and their chances of moving up, or down on Sunday when the next set of rankings is released.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (3-0, previous: 1)

The Crimson Tide took care of business against the Colorado State Rams, avoiding a possible letdown following their marquee matchup with Texas A&M. This week the Tide will face a tougher test as 17.5-point favorites against the Ole Miss Rebels, who are 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings between the teams.

Don’t be surprised if the Ole Miss offense gives Alabama some trouble.

2. Oregon Ducks (3-0, previous: 2)

The Ducks are coming off a bye week, but they’ve looked great this year, even receiving four first place votes in the latest poll. On the weekend they’ll cost California as 34.5-point favorites in a matchup they’ve dominated in recent years.

3. Clemson Tigers (3-0, previous: 3)

The Tigers had a tougher time with the Wolfpack than they would have liked to have had in front of a national audience, but they’ll take that win over a tough opponent. They’ll play their second ACC tilt this weekend, hosting Wake Forest as 27-point favorites.

4. Ohio State Buckeyes (4-0, previous: 4)

Coming off a laugher against Florida A&M, the Buckeyes will need to refocus for a showdown matchup with Wisconsin. Ohio State enters as an 8-point favorite, but the underdog is 10-3 ATS in the last 13 matchups.

5. Stanford Cardinal (3-0, previous: 5)

It looked like Stanford was going to steamroll Arizona State, but they got sloppy late and allowed the Sun Devils to get back into the game, which will leave them with plenty to work on this week at practice. This weekend they’ll travel to play at Washington State as 10-point favorites, where they are 7-1 ATS in their last eight visits. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

6. LSU Tigers (4-0, previous 6)

The LSU offense still hasn’t come back down to Earth after putting up 35 points against Auburn. This weekend they’ll head to Georgia for the weekend’s marquee matchup against the Bulldgos.

7. Louisville Cardinals (4-0, previous: 7)

Louisville won in a walk over Florida International. The game was such a laugher that there was talk during the game as to whether or not Florida International asked for a running clock. The Cardinals are off this week, but will play twice in a six-day span after their break.

8. Florida State Seminoles (3-0, previous: 8)

The Seminoles have won their last two games by a combined score of 116-13, so they’ve had little trouble with lesser schools. They shouldn’t have too much trouble this weekend when they travel to Boston College to take on the Eagles as 21.5-point favorites.

9. Georgia Bulldogs (3-0, previous: 9)

Georgia gutting out a win over North Texas wasn’t something we though they would need to do at the start of the season, but they’ve had more trouble than expected this year. All of their poor play will be a distant memory though if they beat LSU.

10. Texas A&M Aggies (3-1, previous: 10)

The Aggies beat up on SMU over the weekend, and their defense showed a little more than expected, limiting the Mustangs to just 13 points. This weekend they’ll make the trip out to Arkansas to face the 3-1 Razorbacks. The Aggies are 5-0 ATS in their last five games against SEC opponents.
