Nevada (3-0, 2-0 ATS) is off to a great start, winning its first three games in blowout fashion, including a 52-31 romp over Cal last week. The Wolf Pack is averaging over 50 points a game this season and, needless to say, the offense is firing on all cylinders. The passing games, which had many question marks heading into the season, has been very efficient.

Colin Kaepernick is completing over 70 percent of his passes and has six touchdown throws this year. He played great in the upset over Cal, completing 10 of his 15 passes for 181 yards and two scores.

The Wolf Pack is also dominating on the ground. Running back Vai Taua has already racked up 320 yards and five scores, including a 151-yard romp against the Golden Bears.

There are some liabilities on defense. Nevada is giving up over 400 yards per game and has been especially weak on the ground, as opponents are racking up 5.2 yards per rush (Cal ran for 225 yards and averaged 7.5 yards per pop). The saving grace has been takeaways, as the “D” already has five interceptions through three games.

The Cougars (1-2, 1-2 ATS) are looking forward to returning home, where they got their only win of the year. The past two weeks have been rough, as BYU hit the road against tough opponents in Air Force and Florida State; the Cougars were blown out both times.

Certainly, a rotation at quarterback hasn’t helped. It appears freshman Jake Heaps has finally won the job, however, so the offense may finally have some continuity. That’s crucial considering Brigham Young has scored just 24 points over its past two games. Regardless of who’s under center, he needs better protection; the Seminoles went wild with eight sacks last week and, though the quarterbacks are partly to blame, the line has been ravaged by injuries.

That could again be a factor this week.

On the other side of the football, BYU absolutely must find some answers against the run. It’s been terribly ugly over the past two weeks, as Florida State and BYU combined for 687 rushing yards at 6.3 yards per pop.

Unfortunately, with Vai Taua and Co. coming to town, it’s probably not going to happen. Nevada is running the ball very well and the Cougars probably don’t have a hope in stopping it. Take the Wolf Pack to cover on the road.

Gambling Trends:

BYU is 23-2 SU in its last 25 games at home
The total has gone UNDER in 4 of BYU’s last 5 games at home
The total has gone OVER in 4 of Nevada’s last 5 games on the road
Nevada is 11-2 SU in its last 13 games
BYU is 10-3 SU in its last 13 games
BYU is 2-8 ATS in its last 10 games at home

Nevada at BYU pick: Nevada -4
