Week 4 of college football odds are here, as the Fresno State Bulldogs head to Mississippi with the hope of staying on defeated. Here is your Fresno State vs. Mississippi preview and pick.

Fresno State is off to a great start in 2010, but injuries are already mounting. The Bulldogs (2-0, 2-0 ATS) cruised to a 41-24 victory over Utah State last week despite rolling without its top running back or wide receiver, not to mention losing a starting lineman early in the game.

Thankfully, the team proved it has some quality depth. Sophomore AJ Ellis stepped in for running back Robbie Rouse and cranked out 165 yards and three total touchdowns.

With receiver Devon Wylie out, quarterback Ryan Colburn simply completed passes to seven different receivers, including a pair of freshmen.

On the other side of the football, Fresno State is struggling against the run. The Bulldogs were gouged on the ground last season, and it looks like more of the same in 2010—Utah State rushed for 205 yards while averaging 4.6 yards per pop last week. Fresno State also needs to do a better job producing turnovers, as it didn’t come up with any against the Aggies; in fact, the Bulldogs have just one takeaway through two games (a fumble recovery in the season-opener against Cincinnati).

The Rebels (1-3, 0-2 ATS) are off to a sluggish start. Ole Miss fell 28-14 to Vanderbilt last week, and the Rebels have nobody to blame but themselves. Dropped passes, penalties and other mental mistakes killed them against Vandy. Mississippi fell behind 14-0 in the contest but battled back to even the score.

Apparently, the “D” wasn’t interested in holding up its end of the bargain; Ole Miss surrendered an 80-yard touchdown run almost immediately after it tied the game, effectively crushing any hopes of winning.

Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was effective running the ball (19 carries, 104 yards, touchdown) but is just brutal when he goes to the air, completing only 19 of his 35 passes for 190 yards and two interceptions. Defensively, the Rebels melted down against the run.

After holding their first two opponents to 197 total yards on the ground, the Commodores exploded for 227 yards and three touchdowns last week.

Ole Miss had some potential heading into the season, but things have quickly unraveled. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, remain focused after a great 2-0 start. Mississippi should run the ball effectively against Fresno State, but the Bulldogs have plenty of weapons to answer back with.

Look for Fresno State to pull away on the road.
