Both the Ohio Bobcats and Marshall Thundering Herd are desperate for wins on Saturday, as the teams have combined for just a single win this season. Hometown Marshall is getting nearly a one-touchdown edge at the sportsbook.

Marshall (0-3, 1-2 against the spread) is the favorite despite failing to register a single win this season. The Thundering Herd hasn’t exactly had an easy road, though, opening with games against Ohio State and West Virginia. Worn out, Marshall fell to Bowling Green last week.

Turnovers and poor play late in games is killing Marshall. The team lost in overtime to the Mountaineers, and it was tied against Bowling Green heading into the fourth quarter; the Thunder Herd gave up 16 unanswered points in the final period, including an interception that was returned for a touchdown. It was the second pick Bowling Green returned for a score in that meeting, as Marshall quarterback Brian Anderson was intercepted four times. If he doesn’t get better, neither will the Thundering Herd. Right now, the offense is terrible.

Ohio (1-2, 0-2 ATS) has a 33-10 win over Wofford to its credit, followed by losses to Toledo and Ohio State. The Bobcats were steamrolled by the Buckeyes, and the struggles at quarterback were plainly on display. Neither Boo Jackson nor Phil Bates has done anything helpful this season; they combined for just 82 yards and two interceptions against Ohio State; that’s below the team’s season average of 106 passing yards per game. Generally, the offense has been pitiful, and it’s especially frustrating since the Bobcats have some solid talent at receiver and in the backfield.

Defensively, Ohio has actually been pretty solid despite the blowout to the Buckeyes, but that’s to be expected (and it may not have been so bad if the offense wasn’t floundering). The Bobcats are doing a good job forcing turnovers and they’ve been tough against the run, limiting opponents to just 3.4 yards per carry. Injuries could be a problem, though, as both safeties are nursing injuries and may sit out this week.

Cut Marshall a break. Sure, it’s winless, but the team has faced some very stiff competition. Playing against Ohio will practically feel like a vacation. The Thundering Herd has struggled on defense, but the Bobcats are the perfect medicine; they simply can’t move the ball and won’t be able to keep pace with a Marshall squad that scored 28 points last week despite five turnovers.
