WSU Cougars vs. UNLV Runnin Rebels CFB Preview & Free Pick

WSU vs UNLV Odds & Prediction

When WSU (1-1) brought in Mike Leach many thought the Cougars would have a high powered offense like Leach’s Texas Tech had, but after only 2 games the Cougars only rank 107th in the nation in points per game.

Washington State Huskies vs. UNLV Runnin Rebels Preview

While UNLV is 0-2 they are at home and in their first game they narrowly lost in OT to Minnesota. NCAAF lines have the Huskies as 10.5-point away favorites with a total of 54.5.

In their last games Washington State got in the W column by beating Eastern Washington 24-20 while UNLV lost at home to Northern Arizona 17-14.

On the season Washington is 1-1 ATS with an O/U record of 1-0 and WSU is 0-2 ATS with an O/U record of 0-1.

Washington State had a decent game in their win over Eastern Washington with 247 passing yards and 108 rushing yards and they forced 2 turnovers on defense. WSU QB Jeff Tuel passed for 171 yards with 2 TD and 0 INT in the game, but he suffered knee injury in the 4th quarter and is a question mark for this game.

Carl Winston was the leading rusher for the Cougars and he will have to play well in this game, especially if Tuel cannot go. UNLV has not played bad defense this season and even in the loss to Northern Arizona they gave up less than 200 passing yards and less than 100 rushing yards.

UNLV freshman QB Nick Sherry passed for 239 yards in the Northern Arizona game and he was not picked off after throwing 3 INT in the Runnin Rebels opening loss of the season. His WR corps is decent and he is the guy the Cougars may have to worry about and even in the win over Eastern Washington WSU gave up nearly 380 passing yards.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

RB Tim Cornett rushed for 141 yards with a TD in the Northern Arizona game and he has cracked the 100-yard rushing barrier in both games for UNLV this season. The Cougars have played decent run defense this season and if they stuff Cornett and now allow Sherry to have a big game through the air they should win.

In some betting trends for this non-conference match up Washington State is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a losing home record, 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a ATS loss, and they have an Under record of 5-1 in their last 6 road games.

UNLV is 9-4 ATS in their last 13 home games, 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games, and they have an Over record of 5-2-1 in their last 8 games.

Jason’s Pick: WSU is from a major conference, but they have issues on D and Tuel may not play. I think UNLV will play well after getting shocked by FCS Northern Arizona and they will, at least, cover the 10.5-point spread.
