Boise State (9-0, 7-2 ATS) climbed to No. 3 in the polls after a 52-14 romp at Idaho last weekend. The Broncos improved to 5-1 ATS in their past six games, including two straight. Defense and special teams made a tremendous impact against the Vandals, once again reaffirming Boise State can beat you in any number of ways. The Broncos returned a punt for a touchdown, blocked a punt and picked off two passes—all in the first quarter. Boise State finished with three takeaways on the afternoon while adding four sacks. Idaho’s lone touchdown drive was spurred by a fake punt (the other score came on a fumble recovery).

That fumble was about the only mistake Boise State made all day. Kellen Moore was deadly efficient, completing 19 of his 26 attempts for 216 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions. If it weren’t for four dropped passes, Moore would have been close to perfect. The rushing attack, meanwhile, racked up 199 yards and three scores.

Fresno State (6-3, 4-4 ATS) suffered a heartbreaking 35-34 loss to No. 21 Nevada last week. The defeat snapped a three-game winning streak, though the Bulldogs have covered back-to-back games. Fresno State led the Wolf Pack 34-28 in the fourth quarter, but it couldn’t come up with a late stop when Nevada scored with about five minutes left, or another scoring drive to regain the lead. The bulldogs are out of the WAC race but must fight on for a bowl game.

Robbie Rouse has been sensational for Fresno State. The sophomore racked up 217 rush yards and three touchdowns against Nevada, the second straight game he’s eclipsed the 200-yard mark. The Bulldogs also got a solid effort out of quarterback Ryan Colburn (16-26, 194 yards, two touchdowns, zero interceptions).

Fresno State proved it has some fight left in it. Boise State is in another class from Nevada, but the Bulldogs should be able to pound the football and at least keep Moore and the offense off the field. That should help keep the score down a little bit. Boise State will blow out the Bulldogs, but Fresno State will still manage to cover thanks to Rouse.
