Both of these teams have had disappointing starts to their seasons. Washington State is trying to stay relevant in the conference under Leach and hope that now that he is tenured, his system will start play out like it did in years past.

And Cal is trying to find their way under new coach Dykes and get back to prominence in the conference.

Washington State

Last week, the Cougars were beat down on national television by conference power Stanford. This week, Washington State is looking to get back in the winning column against a seemingly vulnerable Cal squad.

Leading the potent offense is Connor Halliday. On the season, Halliday is 148 of 223 for 1,472 yards, 10 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. His biggest target has been one of the best in the Pac-12, wide receiver Gabe Marks. Marks has 37 catches on the season for 423 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Dominique Williams is next in receiving with 13 catches for 268 yards and 3 touchdowns. On the ground, Teondray Caldwell leads the charge with 123 yards rushing on the season with Marcus Mason close behind him with 112 yards. The 4 rushing touchdowns on the team all belong to Jeremiah Laufasa, who has 88 yards on the season.

On defense, Deone Buchanon has lead the way. One of the top defenders in the Pac-12, Buchanon has racked up a team leading 44 tackles, 2 forced fumbles and 3 interceptions as well as recovering a fumble. Cyrus Coen and Darryl Monroe both have 2 sacks on the season while Monroe is 2nd in the team in tackles with 36.

California

The Cal Bears of Berkeley seem to rotate their specialty every couple season it seems. They go from dominant pass offense to dominant run defense almost at will and the Pac-12 knows it. This year, they favor the pass. With the disappointing start to the season, though, things could change in the snap of the fingers.

Quarterback Jared Goff has led the charge for Cal, going 106 of 175 for 1,317 yards, 7 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. Goff has not just one, but two receivers over 300 yards on the season already. Bryce Treggs has 30 catches for 348 yards and a touchdown. Chris Harper is next with 24 catches for 339 yards and 3 touchdowns.

On the ground, Brendan Bigelow is leading in rushing with 62 carries for 236 yards. Daniel Lasco is next in rushing with 154 yards on the ground a score.

Khairi Fortt leads the team in tackles with 32 and also has 3 tackles for loss. Three players are all tied with 1 sack each while three others are tied with 1 interception. As a unit, the defense has tallied 22 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 12 passes defended, 7 forced fumbles and 5 fumble recoveries.
