With Washington going uptempo and Stanford speeding things up themselves, they will get to test these new schemes against each other in a battle to see who will challenge the enemies in Eugene.

Washington

Slowly but surely, the Washington Huskies are climbing the rankings in both the Pac-12 and the nation. Behind a potent passing game and an even more dangerous run game, the Huskies have piled points on opponents all season, with 3 quality wins under their belt already. They have a pretty good defense, too.

Keith Price has been electric, going 81 of 112 for 1,044 yards, 9 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He also has a rushing touchdown on the year. Running back Bishop Sankey has been dominating, averaging 151 yards per game, which is tops in the nation. Last week, Sankey had 40 carries for 161 yards, setting a new school record for carries.

For the season, Sankey has 607 yards rushing and 5 touchdowns. He also has 75 yards receiving and a receiving touchdown to add. Next in rushing is Jesse Callier with 162 yards and 3 touchdowns. Leading the team in receiving is Kevin Smith, who has 269 yards and a touchdown.

Wide receiver Kasen Williams has 255 yards receiving and a touchdown while Jaydon Mickens has 214 yards receiving and a touchdown as well.

The defense has been on point, giving up 288 yards a game. The defense ranks 4th in scoring defense with 10.8 yards and is 2nd in the nation in pass effieciency defense. Leading the team in tackles is Princeton Fuiamaono with 30. He also has a tackle for loss and a forced fumble.

Josh Shirley and Hau’oli Kikaha each have 3 sacks on the season while Sean Parker has 3 interceptions so far. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Stanford

Head coach David Shaw and quarterback Kevin Hogan both had legendary shoes to fill at Stanford. I think they’ve done just fine. After staying at #5 in both polls after a blowout in Seattle against the Cougars, Stanford is looking to make a statement at home against a tough Pac-12 opponent in the Huskies.

Hogan has lead the offense, going 55 of 87 for 832 yards, 10 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. He’s also got 111 yards on the ground. His leading receiver is Ty Montgomery, who has 327 yards and 4 touchdowns on the season.

Wide receiver Devon Cajuste has been impressive as well, with 10 catches for 244 yards and 3 touchdowns.

On defense, who else would be leading the team in tackles besides Shane Skov? He has been an animal in his Stanford career. This season he has 28 tackles, 2.5 for loss, and a sack. Josh Mauro leads the team in sacks with 3, but just behind him is Ben Gardner with 2.5 and Troy Murphy with 2.

Five different defenders have an interception each while the team as a whole has racked up 19 passes defended. They have also forced 2 fumbles (recovering 1), blocked 2 kicks, and have a safety on the year.

Betting Trends

• Under is 4-1-1 in Huskies last 6 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
• Under is 4-1 in Huskies last 5 games on grass.
• Under is 4-0 in Cardinal last 4 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
• Under is 5-1 in Cardinal last 6 games after allowing more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
• Under is 7-2 in the last 9 meetings.

Prediction: Take the under

While Stanford seems like a better team on paper, Washington has come out and shocked a lot of people with their uptempo offense and improved defense. After the last time these two played, it’s hard to say there is a clear favorite. Defense wins games, though, and both teams have good ones.
