Hawaii Warriors vs. No. 1 USC Trojans Preview

On the other side of the coin Hawaii was only 6-7 last season and experts have picked them to finish 7th in the Mountain West Conference. NCAAF odds have USC as a HUGE 42-point favorite in this game with a total of 63.5.

USC has been ineligible for bowls the last 2 years due to NCAA sanctions, but now they are bowl ready and ready to get back to national prominence.

Matt Barkley leads USC and he ranked 3rd in the nation last season tossing 39 TD’s. The Trojans retrun their top 2 WR’s in Robert Woods and Marqise Lee and each ahd over 1,100 receiving yards last season and combined for 26 TD. Hawaii struggled against the pass last season ranking 85th in the nation in that category. They do not have a great pass rush either so Barkley may have a big game.

RB Curtis McNeal also returns and last season he rushed for over 1,000 yards. On top of that Penn State transfer Silas Redd is now with the Trojans and in 2011 he rushed for over 1,200 yards. Yeah, Hawaii has their work cut out of them on defense in this game and it is no shock they are such big away underdogs.  [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Duke transfer Sean Schroeder takes over at QB for the Rainbows and while Hawaii’s top WR from last season is now trying to make it in the NFL they do return 2nd leading WR Billy Ray Stutzmann. USC has a good pass rush and the Hawaii offensive line must keep them out of the backfield or it will be a long day for their new starting QB.

RB Joey Iosefa returns, but he only rushed for 548 yards last season. Hawaii will be mostly about the pass and if they do not light up the scoreboard through the air they will get embarrassed since USC has such a great offense.

Hawaii is 0-7 all time facing USC.

Former USC offensive coordinator Norm Chow takes over as the head coach of Hawaii and while he knows the Trojans’ offense will he be able to do anything to stop them?

In some betting trends for this non-conference match up Hawaii is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 games overall, 1-7 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games, and they have an Over record of 4-1 in their last 5 games.

USC is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games and they have an Under record of 5-1 in their last 6 non-conference games.

Jason’s Pick: Man, hard to go with a team giving away 42 points, but I have to, as I think Barkley will put up a ton of points and Hawaii will get crushed.
