Idaho Vandals vs. Texas A&M Aggies Preview

They massive favorites against an Idaho team that was crushed in their first game and came back and played solid on the offensive side of the ball in their win last week. The Aggies are 35.5-point home favorites in this game with a total of 57.5.

In their last games Texas A&M crushed SMU 46-14 a couple weeks back in the season opener and Idaho beat North Dakota State 44-14 last week.

So far on the season Idaho is 1-1 ATS and has an Over/Under record of 1-1 with Texas A&M at 1-0 ATS and an O/U record of 1-0.

Is there any way the Vandals can contain an A&M offense that was very well balanced that racked up 246 passing yards and 212 rushing yards in the win over SMU? I would say no, as they will have to deal with QB Ryan Tannehill (21/26 426 yards 2 TD) and RB Cyrus Gray, who rushed for 100 yards in his 8th straight game against SMU.

The Vandals’ defense held North Dakota to only 197 total yards last week (168 passing yards 28 rushing yards), but facing Texas A&M they have a HUGE task trying to contain an offense that can really light it up.

The one chance the Vandals have in this game is that they have a good QB in Brian Reader (476 yards 6 TD 1 INT), who tossed 4 TD’s last week. He has a decent WR corps, but will not have time to find them. Why? Well, Texas A&M had 8 sacks against SMU and they will wreak havoc in the Idaho backfield. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Reader will have to likely do it all since Idaho only ranks 105th in the nation in rushing yards per game with leading back, who only has 101 rushing yards in 2 games averaging 4.4 yards per carry. He will be going up an Aggies’ run defense that only gave up 79 rushing yards to SMU.

The Vandals lost to a couple ranked teams last season playing at Nebraska and at Boise State.

Betting Trends

Idaho is 2-5-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record, 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 non-conference games, and has an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 road games.
Texas A&M is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 home games, 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games as a home favorite of 10.5 points or more, and has an Under record of 5-2 in their last 7 home games.

Jason’s Pick: The 35.5-point spread is a big one to say the least and last season Idaho covered the spread at Nebraska and did not cover at Boise State.

Nebraska runs the ball while Boise State can do both like A&M, so I think A&M will cover the spread, as they will not be stopped on offense and they will shut down the Idaho offense.

I would take the Under as well, as I think the Aggies may score almost 58 points themselves.
