The College Football season may be 3-4 weeks away but our man Kyle Hunter has been deep in study and will provide his take and 2010 College Football Predictions on as many NCAA teams as he can before the 2010/11 season kicks off.

Conference USA Football Previews: Central Florida
Head Coach: George O’Leary
2009 Record: 8-5

George O’Leary has done a solid job of building up the Central Florida football program. The Knights have turned into one of the better teams inside Conference USA over the last few years, and I think they have the potential to be at or near the top again this year.
This team is one of the deepest in the conference, and though they do have some question marks, I think their depth will be crucial in many games this season.

The team lost quite a bit of talent from a year ago, but they also brought in the highest rated recruiting class in the school’s history. These youngsters may take a little bit of time to develop, but there is still enough veteran leadership around at UCF to compete inside the conference.
Team Strengths:
The defensive front of the Knights is solid. Bruce Miller is the leader of this team, and he was named Conference USA defensive player of the year in 2009. He will command a double team on a consistent basis, which will allow the rest of their line to take advantage of openings.
The Knights very well might have the best linebackers in the conference. Derrick Hallman and Lawrence Young are very skilled, and they’ll be joined by Chance Henderson in 2010. Henderson had to miss last year with an injury, but was the star of the defense in 2008.
Josh Linam is also a young star who will get plenty of opportunities at linebacker this year.
The cornerbacks are great cover guys that will make life extremely tough on opposing wide receivers. The secondary as a whole has a ton of speed.
Team Weaknesses:
The quarterback position is a question mark after Brett Hodges has graduated. Rob Calabrese would seem to be the leader, but he has struggled to take care of the football in the past. Jeff Godfrey is a highly touted freshman quarterback who will fight for playing time as well. Will the Knights have a solid and efficient quarterback?
The running game would have normally been an area of strength, but Brynn Harvey is injured and will miss the beginning of the season. If Harvey isn’t able to come back quickly and be healthy, this team will suffer quite a bit.
UCF 2010-2011 Football Predictions: 9-4
This is a difficult team to predict in 2010 because they have some great areas of strength, but they also possess some severe concerns. The team needs to find a quarterback who will take care of the football and keep the offense somewhat balanced. The two games in early November at Houston and home against Southern Miss will likely decide the top of the Conference USA standings.
I’m going to pick UCF to have a big year, primarily because I believe they will have the best defense in the conference. This defense is fast and they will create turnovers.
The offense will struggle, but I think UCF will win more than they lose because the defense is so good.
