Week 10:   College Football Line Preview

There is really only one game that truly matters this week and it is in Utah of all places.  All wagering aside this game has huge implications for its winner, its loser and about half a dozen other teams across the nation.  Given their recent dominance it is hard not to like TCU but Utah has had the answer the last three times against the Horned Frogs at home.

I also think there is more to Hawaii’s visit to Boise than meets the eye so lets award the week to the Bracket Busters starting with a very intriguing contest between UCF and Houston to kick off the weekend on Friday night.

Sorry SEC, Alabama-LSU is nice but the Tigers were a bit of an impostor this year and the Tigers should roll.

Central Florida @ Houston (+3) Both teams are in first place in C-USA but couldn’t be more different.  UCF proved they could win a shootout even though they prefer shutouts, making them look like the best team in the conference. These two could meet again in the conference championship next month.  Grabbing the points with Houston feels like the right play…now.

Baylor & Oklahoma State (-7.5) After beating Texas Baylor is still in the race in the Big 12 South.  To beat the Cowboys Robert Griffin will have to have a Heisman calibre game.  He is certainly capable of keeping the Bears in a shootout but it might be too much for the Bears to play at this high level for so long.  They are in rare territory and again on the road against an OSU team that also has a lot at stake.

TCU @ Utah (+6) Certainly the game of the week here.  TCU has been absolutely amazing on defense the last 5 weeks giving up only 16 points.  Utah had been crushing teams until last week’s meeting with Air Force.  It would really help the winner if they won in a blowout but I hope that we will get a competitive game.  Utah is looking for revenge but I don’t think they will get it.

Hawaii At Boise State (-21.5) I know that everyone is looking to Nevada to challenge Boise but I think this game might be just as challenging for the Broncos.  The Hawaii pass attack is prolific and they will keep after the Broncos in a way that most of their opponents thus far haven’t.  I will be backing the Rainbows the only question is when I lay my bet down.  Against Boise you want all the points you can get.

Oklahoma @ Texas A&M (+3.5) The line here is a little low for me.  Sure Oklahoma suffered a setback against Mizzou but they didn’t embarrass themselves and came right back against Colorado.  Ryan Tannehill has been superb for the Aggies the last two weeks but Oklahoma will be a stiffer test.  I like the Sooners here and will hit them early in the week.

Arizona @ Stanford (-8.5) Both of these teams are hoping that Oregon might stumble so they can jump into the Rose Bowl picture.  Whichever one loses this one is assuredly out so their is quite a bit at stake.  Hard not to like the Cardinal but at a smaller number.  Can it come down a couple of points.

Texas @ Kansas State (+4) Does any program in the country get as much respect as Texas?  Despite all their troubles they are still favoured on the road against a fairly good Kansas State team.  A team that is better than the Iowa State squad that thumped the Longhorns earlier this year

Missouri @ Texas Tech (+4) How will Mizzou respond to their first loss of the season?  They can still be a factor in the conference if they can get up of the mat.  Meanwhile Texas Tech is a Jekyll and Hyde team that will lose if you give them an excuse to do so.  Mizzou feels like the play here.

Alabama @ LSU (+6.5) There are lots of scenarios out there with the Crimson Tide in the championship game which means they are supposed to beat up LSU on a Saturday night in Death Valley.  This doesn’t happen very often but if you have seen the Tigers this year this is no shock.  Look for the spread to rise.  I will pass.
