Missouri Tigers vs. No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners Week 4 Free Pick

Venue/ Stadium: Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, NORMAN, OK

Last season Mizzou (2-1) made a furious comeback to beat Oklahoma (3-0) at home and now in Norman the Sooners look to get some revenge, as the top-ranked team in the nation. Oklahoma is a big 21-point home favorite in this game with a total of 56.5.

Missouri Tigers vs. No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners Preview

Last week the Sooners won their first game against a team ranked in the top 5 on the road since 1977 beating Florida State 23-13 while Mizzou got over their upset loss to Arizona State to lay a serious 69-0 beat-down on Western Illinois.

Mizzou is 2-1 ATS and has an Over/Under record of 2-1 with OU at 2-0 ATS with an Over/Under record of 0-2.

Oklahoma QB Landry Jones is a Heisman candidate and while he did lead the Sooners to a big victory last week in the Sunshine State was picked off twice. He did not complete a pass in the last 15 minutes in last season’s loss to the Tigers and if he plays well the Sooners will not be stopped. Missouri has the nation’s 54th ranked pass defense and they really have to keep tabs on the Sooners’ WR duo of Ryan Broyles and Kenny Stills, who is averaging almost 18 yards per catch.

The Sooners also have a good rushing offense led by the solid RB duo of Dominique Whaley (202 yards 4 TD) and Brennan Clay (116 yards 1 TD) and they will be going up against the strength of the Mizzou D, which is their run defense that ranks 11th in the nation.

Much like Oklahoma Missouri has a well-balanced offense ranking 10th in the nation in rushing yards per game and 41st in passing yards per game. QB James Franklin only has 1 pick on the season and he has a good WR corps. The Sooners have an athletic secondary, but their pass defense only ranks 87th in the nation. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

One key player in this game is Mizzou RB Henry Josey, who has rushed for over 10 yards per carry in each of his last 2 games. He will be going up against the 20th ranked OU run defense, but if he can pick up some yards on the ground it will not only take pressure off Franklin, but it will keep Jones and the offense of OU on the sidelines.

The Mizzou offensive line has to contain OU LB Tom Wort, who had 8 tackles and 1.5 sacks against Florida State and keep him out of the Tigers’ backfield.

Betting Trends

Missouri is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games as an underdog of 10.5 points or more and has an Under record of 4-1 in their last 5 Big 12 games.
Oklahoma is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games, 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games as a favorite of 10.5 points or more, and has an Under record of 5-1 in their last 6 games at home.

Jason’s Pick: The underdog has covered the spread in 5 of the last 7 games between these 2 Big 12 rivals. While I do not think that Mizzou has what it takes on D to beat the Sooners the Tigers will keep it close and cover the spread. I would also take the Over in this game as well, since each team can light up the scoreboard.
