Memphis  (3-8) has struggled under second-year coach Justin Fuente, and with a win on Saturday can only  hope to match last season’s win total.

The Tigers have dropped two straight and are coming off a 41-21 loss to last place Temple, but will bring their stingy defense that has found itself ranked in the top 20 in the nation in total defense for most of the season, before recently slipping to 27th after giving up a season highs to the Owls.

That poor  performance came just after one week after one of Memphis’ best outings when it held Louisville to more than 100 yards below its season average in a 24-17 loss.

This will be Memphis’s fifth road game of the season, a place where the Tigers are 1-3 this season, but they will face a tough Connecticut (2-9) team, who after losing  nine straight to start the season, have reeled off  two in a row including a 28-17 home victory over Rutgers last week.

The Huskies rallied in the second half,  needing two fourth-quarter touchdowns to knock off the Scarlet Knights.

Led by redshirt freshman quarterback Casey Cochran over their past three outings, UConn’s offense seems to have been reborn, as the Huskies have put up 21 or more points in three straight games after doing so only twice in their first eight contests.

The defense has also played better recently, but still ranks 96th in points allowed, giving up over 32 points per game this season. This will be the Huskies seventh home game of the year, and they have only won once at home this season.

Matt’s Free Prediction

This should be a close game from start to finish as these are two teams are evenly matched playing their final game of the season.

Memphis has the stronger defense, while UConn has found some success over the past two weeks offensively.

I think this will be a low scoring game and a late turnover may decide the outcome for the home team.

Connecticut 21, Memphis 17
