Tennessee Volunteers vs. No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs Preview

The Volunteers will have to step up on rushing D in this game, as they have struggled in that area this season while Georgia ranks 1st in the SEC averaging 6 yards per carry. NCAAF lines have the Bulldogs as big 13-point home favorites with a total of 60.

The Bulldogs have not lost to the Volunteers since 2009.

Georgia has won all of their games by at least 20 points and they rank 9th in the nation averaging 47.5 ppg.

Georgia looked great on both sides of the ball in their easy 48-3 win over Vanderbilt in their last game and while Tennessee won their last game they only beat a weak Akron team 47-26.

Georgia is 2-2 ATS with an Over/Under record of 4-0 and Tennessee is only 1-3 ATS with an Over/Under record of 2-2.

The Volunteers and their 8th ranked passing offense is led by QB Tyler Bray and he has not lack of targets with the 2 big ones being Justin Hunter and Cordarrelle Patterson. RB Rajion Neal joins Bray in the backfield and while he had a good rushing game against Akron, but when he faced the solid run defense of Florida he struggled to move the chains on the ground. The Bulldogs rank 45th in the nation in pass defense and 49th in run defense. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Georgia QB Andy Murray (1,092 yards 10 TD 2 INT) has played well this season and WR’s Michael Bennett and Tavarres King are each averaging over 14 yards per catch. UT only ranks 69th in the nation in pass defense, but they did have 3 INT last week.

The Georgia RB duo of Todd Gurley (406 yards 6 TD) and Keith Marshall (254 yards 3 TD) are a great 1-2 punch for the Bulldogs offense and Gurley is averaging over 9 yards per carry and Marshall has averaged over 6 yards per carry. In their only loss of the season to Florida the Volunteers allowed the Gators to rush for over 330 yards and if they struggle on run defense again Bray will have to light up the scoreboard for UT to pull off the big upset.

In some betting trends for this SEC match up Tennessee is 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 road games, 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record, and they have an Over record of 5-1 in their last 6 games.

Georgia is only 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games, 7-3 in their last 10 SEC games, and they have an Over record of 5-0 in their last 5 home games.

Jason’s Pick: Georgia will win this game with their D, but something tells me the Volunteers will keep it pretty close and they will cover the 13-point spread.
