Temple Owls (7-2) v Akron Zips (2-7)
Temple: 6-2 ATS / Akron: 3-5 ATS

The Temple Owls will look to secure their MAC East title dreams alive when they visit the Akron Zips at the Rubber Bowl on Friday night.

Temple leads the series 11-7, wining 27-6 the last time these two teams met in 2008.

The Owls has won seven straight games and is atop the Mid-American Conference’s East Division. Temple pulled off a 34-32 win over Miami (Ohio) in Week 10, when PK Brandon McManus booted an 18-yard game-winning field goal with three seconds remaining. Running back Bernard Pierce rushed for 172 yards with three touchdowns in the win. Pierce is averaging 134.56 yards rushing per game.

The Owls have scored at least 24 points a game during their streak and have posted the schools best record since 1990.

Akron ended its six-game losing skid and walked away with the coveted Wagon Wheel trophy by beating Kent State last week 28-20. Quarterback Patrick Nicely passed for two touchdowns in the win. He is slated to start his fifth game this year against the Owls. Nicely has completed 50.3 percent of his passes for 874 yards, with three touchdown passes and three interceptions. WR Jeremy LaFrance is the team’s top receiver, with 35 catches for 434 yards and two touchdowns.

Owls vs. Zips Betting Odds

The Owls is –4 ½ -point favorites in Fridays match up with a game total of 44.
The Zips must be able to run the football like they did against Kent State if they want to defeat Temple. Tailback Joe Tuzze leads Akron’s running game with 209 yards, averaging 26.1 yards per game. Tuzze gets a rare opportunity against Temple, playing against his brother, Vince. The Owls will need a big game from Pierce. This will be a contest won or lost on the ground.

Temple vs. Akron Free Pick

My prediction is the Owls getting it down on the road to cover the spread.
