The Bearcats return home after a pair of poor efforts on the road. The good news is that they have been dynamic at home, winning their two home games by a combined score of 108-16.

Cincinnati’s recent struggles can’t entirely be attributed to the absence of Munchie Legaux – they have a 66-9 win under their belts since he went down. Nevertheless, they managed only 34 points on their two-game road trip, and that has many questioning the team’s offense. 20 of those points were scored in a 26-20 loss at South Florida.

Brendon Kay completed 24 of 36 passes for 240 yards and three touchdowns with two interceptions. Cincinnati outgained South Florida 350-241 in the game, but were hurt by four turnovers. South Florida returned a blocked field goal for a touchdown and brought a fumble back to the house in the contest.

The Owls couldn’t get much going on offense a week ago in a 30-7 loss to Louisville. Quarterback Connor Reilly was benched in the second quarter of the game after completing just 3 of 7 passes for only 25 yards. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Freshman P.J. Walker game in and gave the offense a little life, completing 10 of 19 passes for 182 yards and a touchdown with an interception, including a 58-yard connection with Robby Anderson. He also led the team in rushing with 33 yards on 12 attempts. As a whole, Temple accumulated only 255 yards of offense against Louisville, with only 48 of those yards coming on the ground, and their lone score coming in the final minute of the game.

The Temple defense has looked pretty good this season if you only look at the final score of their games, but opponents have raced out to early leads against them and coasted through the second half. To their credit they don’t give up, but they also don’t get stops when the plays count.

The team has been outscored 84-29 in the first half of their five games. Teddy Bridgewater ripped the team’s secondary to shreds a week ago, completing 25 of 35 passes for 348 yards and a pair of scores without a turnover.

In fact, the Cardinals as a team didn’t turn the ball over a single time and racked up 525 yards of offense.

Cincinnati won last year’s matchup between these teams, 34-10, winning by 24 points as eight-point favorites, and that was on the road. This year they’ll host the Owls, and they’ll be looking to blow them out of the water in front of a national audience after consecutive unimpressive efforts.

The Bearcats are 8-2 ATS in their last home games, and 5-0 ATS in their last five games following a straight up loss.

The play: Cincinnati -20.5
