South Florida Bulls (6-2) v Rutgers Scarlet Knights (6-2)
South Florida: 3-3 ATS / Rutgers: 3-3 ATS

With only four games left in the season, the Scarlet Knights are mathematically out of the race for the Big East title, but could be eligible for a bowl game if they can secure a win against the visiting USF Bulls on Friday night.

The winner of Friday’s contest will assume fourth place in the Big East standings.

Rutgers has had good luck against South Florida with a 3-1 all-time record against USF, and have won the last three meetings between the two teams, including a 49-16 blowout in their last meeting on Nov 15, 2008.

Rutgers has won two consecutive games and has only lost one in its last seven. Quarterback Tom Savage, is third in the conference in passing with 206.3 yards a game. He has had help from wide receiver Tim Brown who is averaging 21.9 yards per catch, with his five touchdown receptions averaging 47.8 yards apiece. Brown lifted the Scarlet Knights to a 28-24 win over Connecticut in Week 9, with an 81-yard touchdown pass with 22 seconds remaining. Defensively, the Scarlet Knights have been successful in stopping the run and are ranked 25th nationally.

The Scarlet Knights aren’t in the Big East title race for one reason; they seem to play their worst against the best, with their only two losses to league leaders — Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.

USF is coming off a huge 30-19 victory over West Virginia in Week 9 that saw quarterback B.J. Daniels toss for three touchdowns as he completed 13-of-26 pass attempts for 234 yards Running back Carlton Mitchell ran for 132 yards and a TD in that win.

Defensively the Bulls are ranked 24th nationally and held the 20th-ranked Mountaineers to just 118 rushing yards. USF has two of the best pass-rushing threats in the league in defensive ends George Selvie and Jason Pierre-Paul.

Linebacker Kion Wilson leads the team in tackles with 61 (one sack), and is coming off a strong effort against West Virginia in which he had 13 tackles.

The Bulls are –1-point favorites in this one.

Bulls vs. Scarlet Knights Free Pick

I have to disagree with the odds gods on this one. Rutgers walks away with the win at home.
