Winston became the youngest Heisman winner in NCAA Football history after an outstanding freshman campaign in which he passed for 3,820 yards and 38 touchdowns, for a Seminoles offense that leads the nation with 90 touchdowns, while ranking second in scoring at 53 points per game.

Besides Winston however, Florida State (13-0) has a glut of skilled players, including a trio of running backs who have compiled more than 500 rushing yards and three receivers that have nearly 1,000 receiving yards.

But it’s not just the offense that’s responsible for propelling the top-ranked Seminoles to national proninence, the defense deserves plenty of credit as well.

Led by cornerback Lamarcus Joyner and outside linebacker Telvin Smith, FSU’s defense has intercepted 25 passes, and ranks first nationally in passing defense and scoring defense, while ranking third in total defense.

Meanwhile, Auburn (12-1) has been a little questionable on the defensive side of the football, allowing 24 points per game and ranking 88th in total defense and 104th in passing defense.

However, there are a trio of standouts that could make the difference in the outcome of their championship matchup with the Seminoles — cornerback Chris Davis, safety Robenson Therezie and defensive end Dee Ford.

Davis is threat every time he is on field, and can hit opponents from out of nowhere, like when he returned a game-ending missed field against Alabama for the winning score.

He also has a team-high 69 tackles, while Therezie leads the team with four interceptions.

And while the defense has its standouts, the Tigers have made their way the big dance by way of the nation’s top rushing attack led by Tre Mason, who finished a superb regular season with 1,621 yards and an SEC-record 22 rushing scores

Mason is just one tip of a three-pronged attack however, which includes dual threat quarterback Nick Marshall (12 passing scores, 1,023 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns) and receiver Sammie Coates, all of who helped Auburn rack up a total of 69 total touchdowns while tying them for 11th in the nation in scoring at 40.2 points per game.

Matt’s Free Prediction

I expect this one to be one of the best national championship games played in the last five years.

Lots of scoring and hard hitting, with the edge going to a stellar Florida State defense.

Florida State 45, Auburn 38
