Football betting players who follow the SEC are in for another hard-hitting season, and thanks to an abnormal amount of returning players on a team that just won the BCS title, Florida is again the team to beat in what is arguably college football’s toughest conference.

The Gators are favored at -300, and it’s not enough that they have Tim Tebow back in “The Swamp”, as he has won two national titles, a Heisman, and he can turn water into wine if you listen to enough Florida fans. NCAA Football Gambling Predictions: SEC

But the Gators also have the entire starting defense back, and it’s not like that group were slouches: they were ninth in the country. All signs are pointing to another SEC title, and possibly a third BCS crown in four years.

After a down year, LSU is rated at +200, and they’ll have Charles Scott aiming for another 1,000 yard season out of the backfield, which should ease the load on pivots Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson. There are six starters back from a defense that was 32nd in the country, but they weren’t the LSU that usually strikes fear into the hearts of the opposition. October 10th’s home game with Florida will be a huge play in your offshore sportsbook.

Alabama is listed at +300 after losing the SEC title game to Florida, and then they were upset by Utah in the Sugar Bowl. Nine players return from the country’s third-ranked defense, and they’ll have to be just as good in 2009 as the Crimson Tide have a new quarterback, Greg McElroy. He’ll be throwing mainly to Julio Jones, who could be the nation’s most talented wide receiver.

Mississippi comes in at +500 according to gambling software, and the Rebels also have a stacked defense as eight players are back from a unit that was 19th in the NCAA. On offense, Jevan Snead is the second-best quarterback in the SEC, but he’ll have three new starters up front protecting him. Dexter McCluster is a threat either rushing or catching the ball, and he could be the next Percy Harvin, Florida’s ex-dual threat who went to the NFL.

Georgia was the preseason No.1 in 2008, but a tough schedule and a slow start doomed them. But with 13 starters back on both sides of the ball, the Bulldogs could be a solid sleeper in your football picks with odds of +650. The losses of Matt Stafford and Knowshon Moreno are huge, and there will be a lot of pressure on Joe Cox to fill Stafford’s shoes under center. Halloween’s annual meeting with Florida should let the Bulldogs know how close they are to competing at the BCS level.

Auburn wraps up the list of top contenders with odds of +800, and the Tigers’ last action of 2008? A 36-0 beatdown at the hands of bitter rivals Alabama in the “Iron Bowl”, which leaves a bad taste in the mouth. The Tigers have seven starters back on each side of the ball, and the offense should be led by Kodi Burns, although a lot will be expected from back Ben Tate. They need something as Auburn was 104th in total offense. The defense should be in good hands as they were 29th in the country, but they’d be even better if the offense didn’t leave them on the field for so long. You can bet that November 27th is circled on the calendar, as that is when Alabama comes to town. If they can get their act together on offense, the Tigers could elbow their way into some of your sports picks this year.

It is hard to go against Florida in the SEC.They have too much talent for any of the next best teams to knock them out of it.

I think that LSU will be better, but not good enough this season to make any real noice. Alabama would be my upset special pick, but I see them losing to Florida again.

The Gators are a shoe in to win the SEC. LSU and Georgia may run a close race to capture the No. 2 spot.
