Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs. UCF Knights Gambling Prediction & Week 13 Preview

Rutgers vs. UCF College Football Spread/Handicapping

I guess a conference isn’t supposed to have two teams called the Knights because Rutgers is hightailing it to the B10 for next season. Good things too because as things are they would definitely be the lesser the two Knights.

This season that is especially true as UCF is undefeated in this inaugural season of the American Athletic Conference play. They nearly dropped the ball last week against Temple but in true championship form they came though in the clutch big time.

I just wish they still called themselves the Black Knights.

That had some heft to it.

Rutgers

Rutgers got blown out last week and have lost three of their last four games as they have been playing the upper echelon of the AAC – a general sign that you are a pretty mediocre club.

This week they get to the very top with a trip to visit UCF so it doesn’t look very promising.

Early in the season when they were having success it was primarily because of surprise running back Paul James, who was among the nation’s leaders in rushing before missing significant time.

With him out more of the burden fell on QB Gary Nova and he couldn’t handle it, throwing 9 interceptions in those three losses alone (he has 13 on the season).

With a defense ranked in the 90s in terms of giving up points the Scarlet Knights just don’t have that kind of margin of error to work with.

UCF

The Knights have a pretty light closing schedule but hopefully they are going to play a little bit better than they did last week when they needed a couple of play of the year jobs at the end of the game just to beat Temple.

This is a very good team that just didn’t play well but they kept their track to the BCS intact…maybe, we will have to see how things shake out.

When they are playing well UCF combines really good offense with really good defense. They are not elite on either side but they make plays and have difference makers – and Blake Bortles is the best QB that nobody ever talks about.

If the close shave last week got their attention and they are focused on the task at hand this one could be pretty ugly down in Orlando.

If they are still not completely focused an upset is at least possible. Though this team has shown on more than once occasion that they have a taste for the spectacular. You just don’t want to have to dip into that well too many times.

They could definitely benefit from some blowouts to help their BCS cause.

Spread Pick: UCF -17
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: UCF 40 – Rutgers 14
