This time around, the two have a combined 18 victories, and with just six losses between the two of them, both are more than happy to be participating.

San Jose State Spartans

The San Jose Spartans have been the definition of a pass-happy offense all year, and unlike some teams with similar strategies, they’ve been able to turn their yards into points. The team averages 327.5 yards per game through the air, and they score an impressive 35.3 points per contest.

Also unlike other air-raid attacks, the Spartans can play defense. They allow just 21.4 points per game, which is good enough for 25th in the nation, and their specialty is against the run. They hold their opponents to just 123.7 yards per game in the rushing attack, which is good enough for 20th in the country.

This team has virtually no running game to their name, but their game plan this season was good enough to earn them 10 wins and the No. 24 spot at the end of the season.

San Jose State hasn’t won 11 games in a season since 1939, so winning this one would be an important milestone for a team that truly has turned themselves around in relatively quick time.

Bowling Green Falcons

The Bowling Green Falcons aren’t nearly the offensive team that San Jose State is, as they score just 23.2 points per game, which is only good enough for 93rd in the country. They struggle passing the ball, as they threw for 216.5 yards per game (81st in the nation) and they struggle running (157.4 yards per game), so their offensive line is going to need a huge game against the Spartans.

San Jose is the fifth-ranked team in sacks this season. They recorded 40 on the year, and they’re going to be coming hard at an offense that can be easily rattled. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Defensively is where this team has shined all year. They allow just 15.8 points per game, which is good enough for eighth in the country, and they gave up just 289.7 total yards per contest, which is good enough for seventh among all NCAA teams. They can stop both the run and the pass, which is what they’ll look to do in the Military Bowl.

So the question is, which will prevail—San Jose’s offense, or Bowling Green’s defense? Bowling Green will get stops in this game, but you have to wonder if they’ll be able to take advantage on the offensive end. The Spartans are the more balanced team, and that balance should propel them to victory come Thursday.
