They will meet to close the year but they need to stay undefeated in the league to maintain their edge.

For Middle Tennessee, they are trying to make a name for themselves in their new league. They lost to ECU earlier in the year but at least they kept it close.

A win this week would really be a feather in their new CUSA cap.

Marshall

The Thundering Herd kind of dropped off the map after losing back to back games to Ohio and Virginia Tech – both on the road to good teams.

That and the fact that the passing game isn’t as productive as it was last year has many doubting where this teams stands in the new CUSA.

Last year QB Rakeem Cato threw for more than 4200 yards but his completion percentage has dropped 10% this season and he will barely break 3000 if he keeps his current pace. Since he has not been on, the running game and defense has been forced to step up and they are doing a pretty good job.

The defense has been very good too outside of the aforementioned losses so Marshall’s ability to win in the conference is good.

Still something is off, their last game they hosted a below average Florida Atlantic team and only won by one. Middle Tennessee is better than FAU.

Middle Tennessee

Sometimes it seems this program is on the edge of becoming more but it just never happens. This year they made the move from the Sun Belt to CUSA with some of their brethren and the results have not been great, they are just 1-2 in in the conference and got hammered two weeks ago by fellow newbie North Texas.

Senior QB Logan Kilgore has experience but so far this is shaping up to be his worst season statistically across the board. Worst of all he is turning over the ball repeatedly, already having exceeded his interception total from last year and we are only at the midway point.

The Blue Raiders poor performance on offense is only part of the story. Their defense gives up yards in bunches and is ranked 102 in yards allowed on the season.

The pass defense is 94th so perhaps this is just the sort of situation Cato needs to get his mojo going.

Marshall should win but it is a road conference game, at least in name as these teams haven’t met since 1994.

Spread Pick: Marshall -10.5
O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Marshall 45 – Middle Tennessee 28
