NIU Huskies vs. CMU Chippewas Gambling Prediction & Week 8 Preview

Northern Illinois vs Central Michigan College Football Spread/Handicapping

The Northern Illinois Huskies just continue to keep winning. They are perfect on the season and heading into what should be a relatively easy game at Central Michigan, the program that used to lead the MAC before their current run of dominance.

I say relatively easy because the Chippewas have actually won their last two and beat an Ohio team I really like last week on the road.

I am not saying that means they can beat the Huskies, or even cover, but this game is a little more interesting than it seemed only a week ago when everyone was expecting CMU to receive a beating.

Northern Illinois

This year’s Huskies team is not the juggernaut they were last year but they seem to be doing just fine either way. They have great balance on offense and despite a few close calls seem well positioned to finish the season undefeated and maybe get into another BCS game – all those losses last week certainly helped them out a lot.

QB Jordan Lynch continues to put up staggering numbers though they are a bit behind last year’s awesome pace.

The best thing that ever happened to him this season is the emergence of power back Cameron Stingily because now he doesn’t have to take as many hits, especially in those short yardage situations he is so good at converting. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

NIU has a few more games before they get into the real division deciding games with Ball State and Toledo.

It would be good not to burn him out before then.

Central Michigan

When you look at their numbers there is no way that Central Michigan should have a 3-4 record.

Last week they took down a very good Ohio team scoring the winning points with less than 30 seconds to go by dominating on the ground with running back Saylor Lavallii who rushed for more than 180 yards – CMU is 3-1 when he is north of 90 yards on the ground this season.

Defensively they limited the Bobcats to only 3 yards per carry and forced QB Tyler Tettleton into a number of mistakes.

If they can replicate that formula against Jordan Lynch and Huskies their chances of winning are good but I am not sure a defense that is ranked 79th in yards allowed and 100th in points can stymie a team for the second week in a row even though they are at home this week.

I could be wrong but I think all last week’s win did was shave a few points offs the spread in this one making it easier to back Northern Illinois.

Spread Pick: Northern Illinois -15
