Rutgers Scarlet Knights vs. Louisville Cardinals Gambling Prediction & Week 7 Preview

Rutgers vs Louisville College Football Spread/Handicapping

Its hard to believe it is already week 7 of the college football season…it goes by so fast. So far Louisville has passed every test pushing the Cardinals all the way to the #8 spot in the country. Still there is not a ton of respect for them even though Ohio is playing better and better each week and they crushed the Bobcats in the opener.

First up is Rutgers a team Louisville has edged by a total of 5 points the last two seasons. The Scarlet Knights are just a point away from being perfect heading into this one too.

Rutgers

Rutgers may have just one loss by a single point but this is hardly a dominant team – just a good one in a weak league. Last week they gave up 52 points in overtime in a game they probably should have lost against SMU and they were hardly great against opponents like Arkansas and Eastern Michigan.

The strength of the Scarlet Knights is running the ball with running back Paul James who is averaging better than 7 yards per carry and is among national rushing leaders. Quarterback Gary Nova has his moments but he is not going to win a game for you. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Last year he hit on two big passing plays for touchdowns but his two interceptions were a factor in him losing such a close game to the Cardinals.

Rutgers is also strong against the run defensively but their pass defense has been horrible. That is not a promising split when you are facing one of the best QBs in America.

Louisville

It seems no matter what Louisville does they are going to take some heat from the national media. First they weren’t beating teams by enough then after just destroying FIU they were beating teams by too much. No matter how you slice it this is a very good team but just how good is up for debate and probably will be all season long.

Though QB Teddy Bridgewater gets all the clippings you should know that Louisville has the top scoring defense in the nation giving up just 6.8ppg. They are in the top 4 in all major categories so don’t be fooled into thinking this is a bend but don’t break unit.

Offensively Bridgewater has been masterful throwing the ball. He hasn’t thrown a pick since week one while completing more than 70% of his passes. He is especially good at connecting with WR DeVante Parker who is a fast physical receiver that is very hard to cover.

Spread Pick: Louisville -17
O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Louisville 45 – Rutgers 24
