Pitt Panthers vs. Virginia Tech Hokies Gambling Prediction & Week 7 Preview

Pittsburgh vs Virginia Tech College Football Spread/Handicapping

Pitt is now in the ACC but this game should feel a little familiar to the Panthers as they visit Blacksburg to face their old Big East pals the Hokies. So far Pitt has fared reasonably well in their new league, the only hiccup being getting blitzed by Florida State in the opener, not shame in that.

Speaking of faring well the Hokies lone blemish this season was a loss in their opener as well to Alabama (again no shame). With a perfect conference record so far they are looking to continue putting the heat on the division favourite Miami.

Virginia Tech team seems to be getting better each week and this team may be a pleasant surprise after last year’s disappointment.

Pittsburgh

Though they were not in the same conference last year these two squared off and Pitt won big 35-17. In that game they ran all over them but that is going to be a lot tougher this year because the Panthers don’t have the same calibre of running backs and the Virginia Tech defense is really good this season.

The Panthers should be able to make it a game this year though because the Hokies offense is not all that good, though their defense has been pretty porous including giving up 55 points on the road at Duke just a few weeks ago.

The Panthers D will be key to keeping the team in the game, it could be a very low scoring affair. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Virginia Tech

The Hokies have rallied nicely since losing to Alabama to start the season. With wins over Georgia Tech and North Carolina already they have taken care of most of the primary contenders in the Coastal division thanks to a very stingy defense that is giving the offense a chance to put up just enough points to win.

That offense seems to be coming around though with senior QB Logan Thomas putting up his best games the last couple of weeks in the key victories against pretty good teams.

The most important thing is that he hasn’t turned the ball over.

With that defense and strong special teams that are a staple of Beamer Ball providing great field position that is all he really needs to do is manage the game and play smart. He is a tough runner too and helps the team get key first downs when they most need it, that will probably be a factor in this one.

Virginia Tech has the chance to put together a really nice run right now if they keep playing smart football.

They just can’t start looking ahead.
