Indiana Hoosiers vs. Michigan St. Spartans Gambling Prediction & Week 7 Preview

Indiana vs Michigan State College Football Spread/Handicapping

This game is a great contrast in styles. Indiana loves to throw the ball and has one of the most productive offenses in the nation, maybe the best in the conference, while Michigan State is all about defense and putting the clamps on you whether you like to run or throw it.

These two met last year with Michigan State winning a close one. In fact the Hoosiers haven’t beaten the Spartans since 2006 and just twice in their last 10 meetings.

They covered last year but that hasn’t been a trend lately either, the Hoosiers are just 3-7 ATS over the last 10.

Indiana

Indiana has been putting up strong offensive numbers since coach Kevin Wilson arrived from Oklahoma. This year there was some question as to who would direct the attack before the season began but QB Nate Sudfield has run with the job this season (not literally) and has been very good, though he could stand to cut down on his turnovers.

He is a big guy at 6’5”, 240 with a really big arm.

Still former starter Tre Roberson gets some opportunities because he is such a great athlete. If Indiana had a better defense than this team would start to really threaten in the B10. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

As it is they are giving up more than 30ppg and in their conference opener last week gave up 44 points to a Penn State team that is not a very good offensive team this season.

Michigan State

The Michigan State defense is very, very good but this is probably their most challenging test of the season- to date the best team they have played was Notre Dame. This week they will be tested and if they are still tops in nation in yards allowed afterwards it will be much more meaningful.

As good as they are on defense though they are equally challenged on offense. A few weeks back they made a switch to Connor Cook at QB and it seems to have given them a little bit of a spark.

Cook has been smart with the football and is more mobile than his predecessor but Michigan State is still only 101st in the nation in yards gained, and its not like they are playing killer defenses every week.

They seem to be out to prove exactly how much offense you need to win a division in the B10 (and not a yard more). If they can slow down the Hoosiers the answer might be not that much.

I like them to win at home but the numbers makes me nervous especially on the backdoor cover possibilities.

Spread Pick: Indiana +9
O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Michigan State 38 36 (typo sorry) – Indiana 28
