Akron Zips vs. NIU Huskies Gambling Prediction & Week 7 Preview

Akron vs Northern Illinois College Football Spread/Handicapping

Remember when Akron almost took down Michigan a couple of weeks back? Well they didn’t win that one and haven’t won any of the three after that either so how good are they. I think the answer is not very which would explain their 1-5 record.

Meanwhile the Northern Illinois Huskies continue to win even though they haven’t been as dominant as they were last season when they went all the way to the Orange Bowl…but MACtion feels like it is just around the corner, they just have to get to the conference games that really matter.

This one likely won’t.

Akron

For the past couple of weeks Zips backers have been getting burned because they thought this team was turning it around after playing Michigan so close (that game probably said more about Big Blue). They have been burned by MAC games that were not even close to being close and now the Zips get the Huskies, the best in the league and a team they haven’t beaten since 2005.

For the Zips to have a chance they are going to need to score more than the 18ppg they are averaging so far this season.

That means a good game from QB Kyle Pohl, who has had a couple of very good games but also turns the ball over more than this team can afford.

The Huskies put a lot of pressure on opposing offense because their own is so good, I am not sure Akron is up for that sort of challenge. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Northern Illinois

NIU is winning but they have had some head scratchers this season. Two B10 wins over Purdue and Iowa are nice but they should have beaten Idaho and Eastern Illinois by more right?.

Last year QB Jordan Lynch was phenomenal and this year he has backed that up further, though maybe a little less emphatically statistically.

The Huskies are the #5 rushing team in the country thanks to the fact that Lynch does not have to do it all himself this season – junior RB Cameron Stingily rushed for 266 yards last week against Kent State the second time he has gone over 100 yards this year.

He is a big back that really packs a wallop.

The Huskies are scoring a ton but their defense hasn’t been that great. If they want to finish the season in the same kind of position they did last year they need to tighten things up, though it probably won’t matter all that much against Akron on Saturday.

The Huskies won’t likely be challenged until they play Toledo and Ball State in back to back games in November.

Spread Pick: Northern Illinois -23.5
O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Northern Illinois 51 – Akron 21
