Red Raiders vs Jayhawks Gambling Prediction & Week 6 Preview

Texas Tech vs Kansas College Football Spread/Handicapping

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are off to a nice start with a 4-0 record in first year coach Kliff Kingsbury’s first season in Lubbock. They have a great opportunity to push that to 7-0 with a few easy conference games to begin the month of October before a trip to Normal to play the Sooners.

No game should be easier than this one against Kansas, one of the worst, if not the worst, major conference programs in America. The Jayhawks may have a winning record (for now) but they have not covered a single number this season.

They lost all of their league games last year and there is good chance that history will repeat itself in 2013.

Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-0) vs. Kansas Jayhawks (2-1)

Texas Tech

If you watched a lot of that TCU vs TT game than you know that the perfect record of Texas Tech is a bit tenuous. Nevertheless they got it done and now have a fantastic opportunity ahead of them because their schedule is back loaded with its tougher games.

It appears that Kingsbury has found the next Red Raider gunslinger in the unlikely form of freshman QB Baker Mayfield. He certainly hasn’t played like a walk-on and some are already trying to predict just how many yards he could throw for in his career given he has started from game one – maybe he could even catch Case Keenum.

Defensively, Texas Tech has been aggressive this season and it is paying off in terms of points allowed – they are allowing less than 2 TDs per game. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

That number will certainly climb as the competition stiffens but this is a matchup where they continue to pad their stats on both sides of the ball,

Kansas

Things are not looking much better for Kansas in 2013. With Charlie Weis at the helm they have been able to bring in reputable quarterbacks but the offense seems to never click and his “guru” status is taking a hit each time out there.

This year they have highly touted BYU transfer Jake Heaps at QB but through three games they have a passing attack that ranks in the 100s.

Two weeks ago they were held to 13 points by Louisiana Tech (in a win), a total that Army, Tulane and even Lamar all exceeded against the Bulldogs.

I can’t rip too much on their defensive numbers right now but like Texas Tech they have come against less than formidable competition. The only saving grace there is that Texas probably won’t challenge their porous rushing defense much. It just isn’t their style. It will just be a bludgeoning to death from the air.

Spread Pick: Texas Tech -17.5
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Texas Tech 38 – Kansas 10
