LSU Tigers vs. Georgia Bulldogs Gambling Prediction & Week 5 Preview

LSU vs Georgia NCAA Football Spread/Handicapping

This is a huge SEC battle and perhaps even a de facto BCS Championship elimination game. An SEC team could probably survive one loss but two would make it very hard to compete for the Championship.

This is why this game is even more crucial for the Bulldogs who have already lost to Clemson this season. Lose and they are severely limited in how far they can really go. LSU on the other hand could afford a loss, especially in a road tilt this early in the season provided they sweep the rest of their conference games (I know). That wouldn’t be an easy task but it is possible.

This one is as big as the opener between Georgia and Clemson so hopefully the Dawgs are up for it.

LSU

It is hard to find a team looking any better than their preseason expectations than the LSU Tigers so far this season. All those hits on defense don’t seem to be hurting them too badly and with the improvement of the Tiger’s offense this team is about as well balanced as any team in the nation right now. The Tigers have won the last two games in the series, both at Georgia, and with QB Zack Mettenburger showing a lot more polish they could easily continue that streak on Saturday. I love their big play receivers, Odell Beckham and Jarvis Landry, and though their offensive backfield may not have the star power of Georgia’s they are running over and around people.

This team can play in a shootout if their defense has problems slowing down the Dawgs on Saturday.

Georgia

To beat LSU on Saturday Georgia is going to need a command offensive performance. They are going to need RB Todd Gurley to channel his inner Herschel Walker (not a stretch) and QB Aaron Murray to try and change his legacy of big game jitters. Perhaps most importantly they are going to need their experienced offensive line to give both of those guys the support they need.

If they can not win the game on offense they will be counting on a defense that is not quite ready to win a game on its own yet. That group is more than good enough to provide a couple of three and outs but they won’t be dominating a Tigers squad that has become a really good offensive club this season.

I think Georgia can do it but unlike LSU, Alabama and some other conference teams they have to keep proving it to us before we can really believe. Too often they come up short but at -3 at home there is a lot to like with Georgia this weekend.

Spread Pick: Georgia -3
O/U Pick: Over
