Louisville is doing its best to impersonate an elite team but last week’s win over Kentucky was a little lacklustre, inviting debate as to whether they are really of that calibre.

Unfortunately for them there is not much to be gained from their game against FIU this weekend, even though this is a team they struggled with last year and lost to the year before that because FIU is really down this season.

The Golden Panthers have yet to win a game this season as the program has fallen off the map. To give you an idea of how far they have fallen they weren’t even the favourite in their recent loss to Bethune-Cookman, a game they lost by a staggering 21 points. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

FIU

For a while there it looked like FIU might graduate to the top of the class in the Sun Belt conference but then they hit a rough patch and decided to raze the football program to the ground including firing the coach Mario Cristobal. Note to FIU – It says something when the coach you just fired is immediately hired by Nick Saban at Alabama.

Anyways, they brought in a new coach in retread Ron Turner and things have gone from bad to worse this year. Add to that that they are now in the tougher Conference USA and this could be a pretty bleak season with this game being the absolute low point in terms of score.

The Golden Panthers have been sluggish on offense but it has been their defense that has been getting torched and now they have to face off against a Heisman Trophy candidate in Cardinals QB Teddy Bridgewater. Look away. That is one of the biggest spreads we will see between FBS teams all season.

Louisville

You can tell that people are going to be snickering about Louisville all season long because of their schedule (thanks for nothing Cincinnati!). This week they should be unchallenged and will be looking primarily for style points both for the team and for Bridgewater, who no matter whether you think the Cardinals are championship calibre has to be considered for the Heisman, maybe even the frontrunner.

Through their first 3 games he has their passing attack rocking and WR Devante Parker has been elevated to an elite threat in this offense. Defensively I thought this team would be a little stronger than it has shown thus far. Its not that the numbers aren’t good but given the quality of competition I thought they would be stronger.

As alluded to earlier the Cardinals are fighting the stereotype of what a championship team should look like until a few more unbeatens fall.

Spread Pick: Louisville -43
O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Louisville 49 – FIU 3
