In the meantime, the Boilermakers, which struggled to beat Indiana State and is ranked near the bottom nationally in several offensive categories, might be just what the Irish need to get back on track.

Purdue has scored just two offensive touchdowns this season and are ranked 116th out of 123 FBS teams in total offense (255 yards) and tied for 113th in points (13.5).

On the other side, Notre Dame has won five straight against Purdue, including two games decided on the Irish’s final drive.

But this year’s Fighting Irish team cannot afford to rely on any last-minute heroics. The team is allowing 411 yards per game, more than 100 yards more than last year’s seventh-ranked defense (305.5).

New players and are still trying to settle into their roles and the team cannot afford to let the Boilermakers even stay close in this one. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

That means the  Irish will once again lean on quarterback Tommy Rees (45-of-74 for 660 yards and five touchdowns this year), who kept his team in the game versus the Wolverines, even until late in the fourth quarter, throwing the ball 53 times and recording 19 rushing attempts. Pretty impressive, especially considering the atmosphere at the Big House.

The Irish put up an impressive 410 yards of offense too.

Meanwhile, the Boilermakers edged out the Indiana State Sycamores on Saturday 20-14. It was their first win of the year. However, Purdue was actually outgained on Saturday 284-295 by Indiana State, as the Boilermakers could not get anything going offensively, except for a 99-yard touchdown return early in the contest.

Matt’s Prediction

Not a lot to figure out here. Purdue is just that bad offensively and Notre Dame should have no problem shutting them down.

Offensively, the Irish have an excellent quarterback in Rees, and facing their rival the Boilermakers, will likely be looking for a solid win to boost morale.

Look for the Irish to really put the hammer down against Purdue in this one.

Notre Dame 35, Purdue 6
