Nevada will have its work cut out for them, as they enter the contest as 34-point underdogs.

The Wolf Pack bounced back last Saturday, beating UC Davis 36-7,after being pounded in Week 1 by UCLA, 58-20.

The Bruins rolled up 600 yards of offense against Nevada’s defense, which ranks No. 91 at 32.5 PPG. But the unit found its footing against the Aggies, allowing only 296 total yards of offense, with 118 coming on the ground.

But the Seminoles ground assault is not what the Wolf Pack need to be worry about — its FSU’s aerial game that’s going to be the real problem.

Florida State is averaging 377 passing yards per game, more than the Wolf Pack secondary allows through the air at 240 yards per game.

FSU is led by redshirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston who showed last week that he is the real deal, finishing against Pittsburgh, completing 25-of-27 passes for 256 yards and four touchdowns, while also rushing for one score in the victory.

Favorite target Rashard Greene caught eight passes for 126 yards and a score and Nick O’Leary hauled in three touchdown passes for Florida State. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

However, as good as the offense was, the night belonged to the Florida State defense, which limited the Panthers to 297 total yards, allowing just 96 on the ground, while forcing two turnovers.

That’s going to be a problem for a Nevada offense that enjoyed a great deal of success against a weaker UC Davis defense that allowed the Wolf Pack to rack up 535 total yards.

Quarterback Cody Fajardo completed 18-of-21 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns versus the Aggie, while running back Kendall Brock hustled for 116 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries.

Nevertheless, it’s going to be much more difficult to produce those kinds of numbers against a stingy Seminoles defense at home this week.

Matt’s Prediction

I expect Florida State will have no problem winning this one.

Not only are the Seminoles that much better, but they are playing at home.

And while I believe that Nevada will find a way to put some points on the board, Florida’s offense should leave none of those points unanswered.

I expect FSU to put a ton of points up in their home opener, covering the spread and hitting the total.

Florida State 50 – Nevada 17
