Its finally time for some MACtion as the MAC kicks off its Tuesday schedule with a couple of games this week. This one is by far the better of the two contests as not only does it feature two already bowl eligible teams but whoever wins will be in great position to win the MAC East, which is currently led by Buffalo with a perfect 4-0 conference record.

The Bulls are a surprise but with three tough games including this one in the final month we will see just how far they can exceed their expectations for 2013.

Ohio

The Ohio Bobcats have to be kicking themselves for their three point loss to Central Michigan just a few weeks backs. Being undefeated in the conference headed into this game would have given them some margin for error but as it is they have to win or else they have no chance of competing for the MAC title.

Ohio has had another strong season but they have been a little more pass heavy than a typical Frank Solich team.

A lot of that has to do with RB Beau Blankenship not being much of a factor as a senior after a terrific junior campaign and the ability to rely on a senior QB in Tyler Tettleton who is looking to go out with a bang – he is on pace for his best season yet. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Also, not to be overlooked is that the Bobcats have a very solid defense.

Throw out their opener against Louisville which was a laugher and it is hard to find a better D in the conference.

Buffalo

Buffalo is a great story this season. Yes they got throttled to start the season by Ohio State and Baylor – who are both still undefeated BTW – but since then they have won 6 straight putting them in the pole position in the MAC East. Matters will get resolved but the fact that a team that has been to only one bowl game in its history is eligible with a month to plays is a very good story.

Buffalo may not have shown it in those early blowouts but they have a really good defense.

In fact they have not given up more than 23 points in a game since then and NFL scouts are drooling over linebacker Kahlil Mack.

Offensively they are not as impressive but sophomore QB Joe Licata has been good at managing the games, he hasn’t thrown an interception in the last 4 games, all conference victories.

It won’t work against the Big Boys but that formula could get them into a MAC title game.
