Georgia Bulldogs vs. Clemson Tigers Gambling Predictions & Week 1 Preview

Georgia vs Clemson NCAA Football Spread/Handicapping

There are some very good games in the first week of the season as we have been offered some fun neutral site contests and even some rare conference games…but this one is the prize of the week pitting two Top 10 teams in an on-campus BCS Championship elimination match before we even get to Labour Day (neutral sites are cool but they often lack emotion).

Adding in the proximity of these schools, who are fighting for recruits all season long, and it makes for an absolutely hellacious environment. Its ACC vs SEC and it should be very entertaining.

These programs haven’t met on the football field since 2003 but Georgia has won the past 5 between them. To find a Clemson victory you have to go al the way back to 1990.

Even though none of these players were even alive back then there is probably just enough history for some hatred to be present. I am sure Georgia is aware they have controlled the Tigers when they have met in the past and will be looking to do the same on Saturday.

Georgia

Georgia should have one of the best offenses in America this season. They are led by a senior QB in Aaron Murray and have the best running back tandem in the nation in sophomores Todd Gurley and Keith Marshall.

With all five starters returning on the offensive line they could probably have a Top 50 offense even if they never threw a pass but Murray will likely connect with his big, fast receivers often giving them great balance and defenses nightmares. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

The only question about the 2013 Bulldogs are on defensive side of the ball where just three starters return after the usual NFL purge at the draft.

The athletes are definitely there, especially with LB Jordan Jenkins on the edge but this will be a big test against a Clemson team that can certainly put up some points too.

Clemson

The Clemson Tigers offense is also loaded and ready to go.

They are not as strong in the backfield as the Dawgs as they look to replace Andre Ellington at tailback but receiver Sammy Watkins might be the most explosive player on either side in this one (maybe even the nation), and in senior Tajh Boyd he has a QB who will be looking for him often as part of their up tempo attack which has been on fire the last couple of seasons.

If the Tigers get down they definitely have the firepower to come back and Clemson also has an advantage with the game being played at home in Death Valley.

I don’t think the Bulldogs will be intimidated given how many intense road environments they experience in the SEC but it will help the Tigers to have their home fans urging them to victory.

Spread Pick: Georgia -1.5
O/U Pick: Over
