Saturday CFB Betting – Wildcats & Cardinals TO Play All the SEC marbles

North Texas is a sheep that’s about to be led to slaughter. While it’s true that a Sun Belt Conference school, Louisiana-Monroe, went into Tuscaloosa and shocked Alabama four years ago, that 2007 upset was very much a product of the fact that Alabama was trying to rebuild under current coach Nick Saban.

That was Saban’s first season as the Crimson Tide’s boss. It’s safe to say that after a few more seasons, the Tide are back to being an annual college football power, a regular threat on the college football scene. Therefore, when another Sun Belt program makes the trek to the Alabama campus, events won’t unfold the way they did for Louisiana-Monroe in 2007.

No, the North Texas Mean Green  will be venturing into the belly of a very fierce and formidable football club. The Mean Green won’t look very intimidating when they stare across the line and see the sculpted, chiseled, fire-breathing linemen and linebackers of the Alabama Crimson Tide. Alabama’s defense is beginning to look like the 2009 version that won a national title for Saban.

North Texas and new coach Dan McCarney will try to use this game as a springboard for their Sun Belt Conference season in 2011. The Mean Green are likely to get beaten and bruised in the process. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

Consider this about North Texas: It lost by 25 points, 48-23, to the finesse-oriented Houston Cougars this past weekend at home. Houston is not a physical team; the Cougars like to play against air and use a tempo-based passing game from spread formations. Alabama is a completely different team when compared to Houston.

The Tide, instead of flinging the ball all over the field and aiming for shootouts in which their quarterback throws for 350 yards and five touchdowns, will aim for a very minimalist kind of game.

Alabama likes the tempo slow; it wants to punch teams in the gut and break their will by wearing them down. The Crimson Tide did those kinds of things in a 27-11 win at Penn State that was much more decisive than the final score indicated. Bama’s defense allowed only three points while the game was still competitive.

It conceded only 250 yards to Penn State, many of them in garbage time. Alabama should limit North Texas to no more than seven points. The Tide’s running game should overpower UNT’s undersized defensive front.

This really shouldn’t be much of a contest at all.
