OSU Beavers vs. SDSU Aztecs Gambling Prediction & Week 4 Preview

Oregon St. vs San Diego St. NCAA Football Odds

The Oregon State Beavers may have dropped their Week 1 contest to Eastern Washington (FCS), but they’ve done a decent job of bouncing back entering Week 4. Now they’re set to take on the San Diego State Aztecs, who are 0-2 after losing to Eastern Illinois and the No. 3 Ohio State Buckeyes.

That said, the OSU from Corvallis, Ore. will look to put some serious points on the board as it continues recovering from a disappointing start to the year.

Oregon State

The big question for OSU entering the year was: Who would play quarterback? Cody Vaz and Sean Mannion had both played well during stints of 2012, and both deserved a shot with the starting spot wide open. Head coach Mike Riley ultimately went with Mannion behind center, and so far, it’s looking like a brilliant move.

Through three weeks, Oregon State has become the most prolific passing team in the country. It’s launching the ball through the air 438.7 yards per game, as Mannion has tossed for 12 touchdowns and just one interception. Along with Mannion is his No. 1 target Brandin Cooks. The wide receiver has seven scores at this point in the year, and his hands are a big reason Mannion has completed 72.5 percent of his passes.

Offensively, the only concern here is Storm Woods. The starting tailback is out following a head injury in Week 3, and while he hasn’t been a star on offense just yet, he has kept defenses honest with his ability to break free on the ground. [soliloquy id=”82219″]

San Diego State

This game will ultimately come down to how well the Spartans can defend the pass. We know that Mannion will throw the ball throughout the contest, and it’s up to San Diego to make those adjustments.

Unfortunately for the team from California, pass defense has been a weakness during its first two games. This team is giving up 41 points per contest. Unfortunately for San Diego State, the Beavers come in averaging 43.3, which is a bad sign to say the least. Additionally, the Aztecs’ offense has done little to make up the difference. It’s putting just 13 points per game on the score board each week.

The truth is that the Beavers’ defense has been shaky at best throughout 2013, but against San Diego, there shouldn’t be much of a challenge. The Spartans are putting up a respectable 267 yards per game through the air, but an abysmal ground attack will make them easy to predict.

Oregon State dropped an unfortunate game to a lesser-talented squad early in the year, and while it’s tough to forget that fact, expect the Beavers to continue redeeming themselves against San Diego State. Ohio State was able to tear apart the Aztecs’ secondary, and there’s no reason to believe this week will be any different.

Score Prediction: Oregon State 40 – San Diego State 14
