Oklahoma Gambling Odds from Sportsbook.com to win BCS: +600

The Oklahoma Sooners fell far short of expectations in 2009 after a rash of injuries and four close losses. Sam Bradford, Gerald McCoy, and Trent Williams were all three picked in the top four of the NFL Draft in 2010, so they have some major talent to replace. Tight end Jermaine Gresham went in the first round as well, and he was unable to play all of last season.

Sam Bradford’s shoulder was the single biggest injury, and the Sooners were simply never the same team without him.

Sam Bradford’s absence was a huge negative on last year’s team, but it did provide the talented Landry Jones plenty of opportunity to get experience at the quarterback spot. The Sooners have some question marks this year, but if they are able to stay healthy, there is no doubt this is a team that could compete with the best teams in college football.

Team Strengths:

The Sooners are loaded with play makers on the offensive side of the football. Ryan Broyles may be the best wide receiver in the country. Broyles will also make his presence known by returning punts in spectacular fashion. DeMarco Murray is another big play type of guy. He struggled with injuries last year, but he appears to be 100% now, and he definitely has the ability to be one of the best backs in football.

The defensive front loses McCoy, but they’ll still be extremely good. Jeremy Beal lead the team in sacks last year and he could have an even bigger year this year. Defensive tackle Adrian Taylor is a load in the middle that will slow down the opposition’s running game.

Team Weaknesses:

The cornerbacks are a real concern for this Oklahoma team. The Big 12 is full of teams that like to air out the football, so cornerback isn’t an easy place to hide. The safeties are good, but the corners are going to need to pull their own weight for this team to be the best in the Big 12.

The offensive line needs to improve in run blocking. They did well protecting the quarterback last year, but the running game never got going despite some very talented running backs carrying the football.

They’ll need to open up more holes in the defense to keep the pressure off the passing game in 2010.

2010-2011 OU Sooners Football Predictions: 11-2

This Oklahoma team is an extremely tough one to predict in 2010-2011. I think all of the experience that the youngsters got last year will help them be a much better football team this year.

I fully expect this defense to be good, although the pass defense might suffer a bit from the lack of experience at the corner spot. Landry Jones should have a good year, and the offense should be one of the best in the country. The schedule is quite easy, with Oklahoma getting the good fortune of avoiding Nebraska this year.

I think the Sooners will trip up once during the regular season and then lose in a BCS bowl game to finish 11-2 on the year.
