The West Virginia Mountaineers head north to Hartford, CT. this upcoming Friday night to take on the Connecticut Huskies in this Big East matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.

West Virginia is coming off its worst loss of the season as the then No. 20 Mountaineers fell out of the top 25 after losing to Syracuse 19-14 this past Saturday as a 13 ½  point home favorite. The total stayed ‘under’ the 43 ½  point line. The loss drops West Virginia to 5-2 straight-up and 4-3 against the spread for the season. It is 1-1 SU in conference play.

Mountaineers QB Geno Smith threw three first-half interceptions and was sacked five times under a relentless Orange pass rush. He finished the game completing 20-of-37 attempts for 178 yards which was a far cry from his 68.8 percent completion rate coming into this game. West Virginia’s defense, ranked fourth in the nation, could not stop Syracuse from capitalizing on all the miscues as the Mountaineers lost for the first time at home after 12 straight wins.

Connecticut’s disappointing season continues to spiral downward after losing its second straight conference game. Two weeks ago the Huskies lost to Rutgers 27-24 in a game they were favored by five points on the road and this past week they were blanked by Louisville 26-0 as a three-point road underdog. Connecticut is now 3-4 both SU and ATS on the year. It is 0-2 in the Big East. NFL Betting

The Huskies offense could do nothing against a Cardinal defense that posted its second shutout in the last three games. RB Jordan Toddman, who came into this game averaging 152.2 rushing yards per game, was held to just 80 yards on 19 carries. UConn QB Michael Box, a redshirt freshman, made his first start of the season but was knocked out of the game with a mild concussion. He completed just 4-of-12 attempts for 35 yards before leaving the game. His status for this game is unknown at this time.

West Virginia is 7-3 SU in its last 10 games and 6-4 ATS. The Mountaineers are 2-1 both SU and ATS in their last three road games. The total has stayed ‘under’ in six of their last 10 games overall.

Connecticut is 6-4 SU and 5-5 ATS in its last 10 games. The Huskies are 5-0 in their last five games at home and 4-1 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in six of their last 10 games overall.

Head-to-head, the Mountaineers have won six straight games SU and are 5-1 ATS. Last year the Huskies covered as an eight-point road underdog in a 28-24 loss. Two years ago in Fairfield, they lost 35-13 as a three-point home underdog.

West Virginia is still the best team in a very mediocre Big East conference and will be looking to prove that in front a nationally televised audience on Friday night with a dominating win.
