The Duke Blue Devils, out of the ACC take on the Navy Midshipmen, a 1A Independent, this upcoming Saturday afternoon at Navy Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. (ET). The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN3.com.

Duke opened the 2010 season with a 41-27 win over 1AA Elon and so far that game makes up its entire highlight reel. Since then, the Blue Devils have lost six straight games including a 44-0 shutout at the hands of No. 23 Virginia Tech this past Saturday. Duke was a 27 point road underdog and the total stayed ‘under’ the 63 point line. While the Blue Devils are 1-6 straight-up, they are somewhat better against the spread at 3-4. They are 0-4 SU in ACC play.

The problems with this team are widespread, but its biggest liability has been keeping opposing teams off the scoreboard. Duke is ranked 114th in the country in points allowed, giving up an average of 38.7 per game. One bright spot has been the Blue Devils passing game which is averaging 254.1 yards per game, ranking them 36th in the nation. QB Sean Renfree has completed 151-of-276 attempts for 1737 yards. He has 10 TD passes but has thrown a whopping 15 interceptions as well. WR Conner Vernon has been his favorite target and leads the team with 43 receptions for 625 yards and has three TD’s. Navy is in the midst of another solid season and coming off yet another upset of Notre Dame. The Midshipmen knocked off the Irish 35-17 as a 6 ½ point underdog. The game was played at the New Meadowland Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey and the total went ‘over’ the 48 ½ point line. Navy is now 5-2 SU on the year and 4-3 ATS.

The Midshipmen boast a stingy defense and a bruising running game which are the primary reasons for their successful start. They are ranked 19th in the nation in points allowed, giving up an average of just 19 points per game. Navy’s rushing offense is ranked ninth in the country; averaging 274.4 yards per game. Behind a tremendous run-blocking offensive line, QB Ricky Dobbs leads the team in rushing with 469 yards on 152 carries and has scored eight TD’s. RB’s Alexander Teich and Gee Gee Greene have combined for another 769 yards on 126 carries. All told, 11 different players have carried the ball for a total of 1921 rushing yards on the season.

Duke is 1-9 SU in its last 10 games and 3-7 ATS. The Blue Devils are 0-4 SU in their last four road games but 2-2 ATS. The total has gone ‘over’ in five of their last eight games.

Navy is 7-3 SU and 5-5 ATS in its last 10 games. The Midshipmen are 4-0 SU in their last four games at home and 2-2 ATS. The total has stayed ‘under’ in seven of their last 10 games overall.

Head-to-head, Navy has won four of the last five games SU but lost to the Blue Devils 41-31 the last time they faced each other two years ago. Duke was actually a 2 ½ point home favorite in that game. This time around the Blue Devils will be hard-pressed to keep this game within three or four TD’s as they will not be able to stop the Midshipmen’s ground attack.
