Missouri Tigers vs. Texas A&M Aggies Preview

Missouri (5-0) has not got much press this season, but they have yet to lose a game and they will face a stiff test in facing Texas A&M (3-2), who is coming off a tough 7-point loss to 12th ranked Arkansas. College betting lines have Texas A&M as 3-point favorites in this game.

The Tigers have a solid offense and a good defense that ranks 3rd in the nation in opponents’ points allowed (11.2), but this is a Big 12 game and Mizzou is only 3-8 ATS in their last 11 conference games.

Texas A&M has a great passing offense and a decent defense, at least against the run, and even though they have lost 2 straight both games were against ranked teams (Oklahoma State and Arkansas) and both games were close. The Aggies seem to bounce back after struggling on offense in their previous game, as they are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game.

Mizzou cannot overlook a good Texas A&M team even though their next 2 games will make or break their season facing 6th ranked Oklahoma on the road and then facing 6th ranked Nebraska at home.

The last time these 2 teams met was in 2007 when Missouri beat Texas A&M 40-26.

Apparently the grass is not greener for the Tigers, as in an interesting trend they are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games played on grass.

Texas A&M does have a winning record and the Tigers are only 3-10 ATS in their last 13 games facing a team with a winning record.

In their last games Missouri looked great on defense shutting out Colorado 26-0 and Texas A&M lost to Arkansas 24-17.

This season the Tigers are 3-2 ATS and the Aggies are 2-3 ATS.

Texas A&M has a dynamic passing attack that ranks 11th in the nation in passing yards per game. They are led by QB Jerrod Johnson (1,486 yards 13 TD 9 INT) and in the loss to Arkansas he was very erratic only completing 15 of 14 passes for 212 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT. He has some good targets and he will be facing a Missouri pass defense that ranks 40th in the nation.

Texas A&M has a decent ground game ranking 47th in the nation in rushing yards per game led by RB Christine Michael (507 yards 4 TD). If he can pick up some yards in this game against the Tigers and their 41st rushing defense it will open up the field and allow Johnson to air it out more and make the big play.

The Aggies committed 4 turnovers in the game against Arkansas and they have to hold onto the ball in this game and not give Mizzou more chances to score.

Mizzou and their 25th ranked passing offense is led by Blaine Gabbert (1,230 yards 7 TD 3 INT), who is coming off a solid game against Colorado where he was 17/29 for 191 yards with 2 TD and 0 INT. Gabbert was injured in last week’s game, but he should go in this one and the Tigers will really need him under center.

The Tigers are not one-dimensional on offense, as their rushing attack ranks 67th in the nation and they have a couple of solid backs, but they will have trouble picking up yards on the ground against a great Aggies’ rushing defense.

Texas A&M is stellar defending the run (ranked 8th in the nation), but their pass defense is weak only ranking 84th. That is not good for them facing a Mizzou team that likes to air it out.

The one key in this game is the secondary of the Aggies, as they have struggled this season. They will continue to do so in this game facing Gabbert, who will lead the Tigers to a minor upset and stay undefeated heading into their HUGE showdown with Oklahoma next week.

Betting Trends:

Texas A&M is 2-6-1 ATS in their last 9 games following a loss and has an Over record of 10-4 in their last 14 games facing a team with a winning record.
Missouri is 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games following an ATS win and has an Under record of 9-2 in their last 11 games facing a team with a winning record.

Pick: Missouri +3
