Last weekend’s loss at LSU couldn’t have possibly been more heartbreaking for Tennessee. The Volunteers had the game won more than once before eventually losing after some last second pandemonium. Can Derek Dooley get his team to bounce back from such a huge disappointment?

The Volunteers offense has struggled quite a bit this year, but Matt Simms is definitely improving in his role as the signal caller. Simms hasn’t thrown a pick in the last two games and he appears to understand the offense pretty well right now. The running game has struggled to find an identity, but Tauren Poole did run for over 100 yards last week against a great LSU defense. The offensive line appears to be slowing improving, but they still have plenty of work to do. Overall, this is a unit with much less talent than normal for a school like Tennessee.

The Tennessee defense has also had a difficult time this year. The team allowed 544 yards to UAB a couple of weeks ago, which clearly shows this defense isn’t up to par in 2010. Tennessee fared much better last weekend, but LSU’s offense is about as weak as you’ll find right now. The Volunteers lost two key players on the defensive line at the beginning of the season, and that has hurt them badly.

They must improve against the run if they are going to win some big games in the SEC.

Georgia

Mark Richt was on the hot seat to start the season, and most believe it is now almost a foregone conclusion that he will be gone at the end of the year. Georgia has been a huge disappointment and unless things turn around quickly, this will the end of the Richt era.

Aaron Murray has done a nice job stepping into the quarterback position for the Bulldogs. Murray has thrown eight touchdowns and just three interceptions this year. A.J. Green is now back so Murray has a big play maker on the outside. The Bulldogs are supposed to be a good running team, but they have been terrible on the ground. Caleb King and Washaun Ealey are both talented, but it seems the offensive line just isn’t getting the job done in the blocking schemes. This team has the potential to be pretty good on offense, but it all starts up front.

The Bulldogs defense hasn’t been that great this year, especially against the run. Before the season they changed their defensive scheme, but the lack of a defensive run stopper is still a major problem. Last weekend Colorado ran for 235 yards against this Georgia defense, and Colorado doesn’t have a strong running attack. Georgia has also struggled to hold opponents to field goals. They must start to tighten up in the red zone and force more field goal attempts.

The Pick:

I have to think that Georgia will win this one, because they are simply more talented on both sides of the football. This seems like it has the potential to be an ugly game between two teams that just aren’t very fundamentally sound right now. I like the under in this one.

Tennessee vs. Georgia Score Prediction: Georgia 27 Tennessee 14
